Another go?

I'm thinking of giving another try to several TV shows that I either dropped or didn't even bother to start watching...

Hawaii 5-0 - my problem is that I don't like Steve. I really, really don't like him. I think he's a tool and that he likes to play Rambo way too much. I also hate the police brutality in this show - pretending to throw a guy to the sharks/to run him against a wall on a moving car is NOT FUNNY and never will be. But! I really like Daniel Dae Kim and his Chin-Ho Kelly character. And I also adore Mark Dacascos. So, does the latter outweigh the former? I guess I should find out.

Once Upon a Time - I gave this show a handful of eps before dropping it because I wasn't the biggest fan of the Emma vs. the Evil Queen thing and the kid. But from what I hear, the show now focuses more on other characters, it's not JUST Emma and her issues all the time. Might be interesting.

Rizzoli and Isles - I dropped the show because I honestly didn't see any chemistry between the actresses. But I've caught bits here and there on the Czech TV since - for once, we are pretty up to date with a show - and it looks like it got better, they smoothed out the characters' quirks and made them actually interesting.

Person of Interest - I haven't even tried watching this show. I'm not a fan of the main actors and the premise sounded, to be perfectly honest, quite ridiculous. But everybody on my flist seems to like it, so... why the heck not, right?

You know, I realized that I preferred to watch shows in big bunches, to marathon them because the US TV is quite famous for its extended hiatuses that literally kill any momentum a show has built. Marathoning Haven just a few days ago was perfection pure. Maybe now that the aforementioned shows accumulated enough episodes for a real marathon, I might actually get into them...

I'm so looking forward to this. It opens on Dec. 27 here, like MI4 did last year. I hope it's a hit. I really like it when Tom Cruise kicks major ass.

You know, Tom Cruise is one of the actors that I don't care about personally. As in, their personal life. I feel the same way about Will Smith, for example. But I adore his movies, especially the action driven ones because he is an amazing actor and I admire his dedication to his craft.

This is, I think, the best animated movie I've ever seen. Not only is it incredibly funny, it's also very touching and full of action and adventure. And the friendship between Hiccup and Toothless tugs at your heart.

I got really, really angry at Hiccup's father when he refused to listen to his son. It was like he was blind and deaf, he just didn't see or didn't want to see/accept what his son wanted or needed. Even Hiccup noted that their conversations were really one-sided. I guess the father represented all the close-minded people out there who had been taught hate since childhood. Only Hiccup, who wasn't physically strong and thus couldn't accompany his father on hunts, never learned how to hate.

And I actually got all teary-eyed at the very end, when Toothless curled up around Hiccup, protecting him. Like, seriously, animated movies for kids shouldn't make you weep your heart out. But that scene was so incredibly beautiful...

Also, I didn't know that 30 Seconds to Mars performed the main song, written by Jared Leto himself. Huh.

You know, Continuum isn't... bad - but it isn't good either. From the promos, I expected something great - but the result is just a cheap looking show with so much hand-waving you could actually lift off.

Rachel Nichols' Kiera isn't all that likable and her endless moaning about the family she left back in the future's getting a bit annoying. I mean, remember Time Trax? Another show about time traveling terrorists? Darien Lambert at least had fun catching the bad guys. Kiera? Not so much. And the way the others just accept her knowing things... Eh.

Also, I'm basically skipping all the terrorist parts. They might fight for a good cause but they are still terrorists. I don't care about their sob stories. Or about Alex's issues with his family that will somehow tie into the whole thing...

This show had so much potential, I really don't get how you could make a series about time traveling terrorists boring. But they somehow managed it. The only saving grace is Victor Webster as Carlos. And the many, many famous TV faces.

I will keep on watching - there are only 10 episodes in S1 after all - but... yeah, I'm disappointed, I admit it. I'm not even going to give this show a tag of its own because I don't expect any fangirling in the future.
