Nov. 17th, 2011 09:41 amI'm quite fascinated by some peculiar things, one of them being the consensual sibling incest in fictional works - with emphasis on consensual and sibling. Non-con and parent/child incest is a big squick for me, seriously! I don't even like daddy!kink or age-difference!kink, I find these things creepy. But a consensual relationship between siblings is quite a fascinating thing for me - yeah, I'm weird that way, sue me.
I'm actually not interested in the sex part of this relationship - sex in general is very, very low on my list, TBH - more in the whys and hows. Why would two people related to each other decide that they are basically "IT" for each other? That they are the most important thing there is in the world for each other? Why would they defy something the society considers taboo these days? And is it worth for them in the end?
The best examples of this non-sexual yet totally subtext-y relationship for me are...

Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural
&

Leto and Ghanima from Children of Dune
With Sam and Dean, the relationship is definitely not sexual - let's be realistic there, folks - yet there's still no room for anybody else between them. It was even heavily implied that they were soul mates - the writers are actually pretty much on board with this "you 'n me" stuff so I think they didn't go all the way and say it outright, that they are soul mates, I mean, because the network would've put a kibosh on it anyway.
With Leto and Ghanima, the thing is a bit different because they are pre-born and they remember their past lives where they used to be lovers, even married. In this life, their relationship isn't sexual either, yet it's still the case of "you 'n me" again. Maybe it's because the actors had amazing, fantastic, unbeatable chemistry and when they looked at each other, you felt like they didn't see anybody but each other.
In any case, it's these relationships that fascinate me to no end. I get that it's not everybody's cuppa, definitely not, but... *shrugs* That's why I love TVTropes.org and their Incest Is Relative tag. Many interesting things to explore...
