About conscious decisions

I've made a conscious decision not to go and look for info about the actors starring in Spartacus: Vengeance. I just... don't want to know. Anything at all, if possible, about them.
You see, a few years back, when I was literally obsessed with SPN, I got so tangled up in BTS stuff, that it started ruining all the pleasure I took from watching the show. It just tore down the fourth wall way too much for my liking - also, tin-hatters get really old, really fast.
But back to Spartacus. On Tumblr, I stumbled across some info about Pana Hema Taylor who plays Nasir. Oh, nothing bad, don't worry. Just that he has a GF/fiancée/wife who's much older than he and by much I mean like 20 years older. Personally, I don't care, his private life is none of my business and if he's happy, more power to him. But his so called "fans" immediately started hating on her. And that's when I decided: no, just no. No more BTS for me. I will NOT allow crazy fanatics to ruin my pleasure!
Also, I decided not to visit any comms and sites that post episode summaries and discussions. Why? Because of Agron and Nasir...

Oh, the pairing is quite popular, it's not that people hate it. But fans are obsessed with how... vanilla it is, that it's not more graphic.
Head meet desk, seriously. Here you have a couple that's amazingly written and loved by the writers themselves. You see how the two progress from being enemies over reluctant friends to lovers, you see a real character development that doesn't depend on clichés, you see two men who are first and foremost in love with each, the lust is secondary to their feelings for each other - which is a very rare thing in gay couples on TV. You have a couple that can show more love and intimacy in one smile than others while boinking like rabbits... But it all devolves to "We haven't seen them fuck yet!" I? Have no words.
So, no hunting for BTS info and no web discussions. I'll be a much happier fan that way!

Date: 2012-04-01 03:57 pm (UTC)Dear Fen: It's called imagination. If you have to have everything spelled out for you in black and white and your nose pushed into it then that doesn't say much for your imagination, does it?
I haven't watched any of this season but I'll gorge myself on it next week while I'm on vacation. Just from what little I've seen, Agron and Nasir look adorable together.
As for looking for info on the actors? I never do. As far as I'm concerned their personal life is theirs. It's only their on screen personae that I'm concerned with. Well, that and what I can make of 'fictionalized' SPN actors and any who wander into the fandom. I even prefer to read totally AU RPS fic.

Date: 2012-04-03 09:28 am (UTC)This is pretty bad of me, but I don't like to interact if I can help it! I'm here for the fic and the pretty. Because of this, somehow I avoid over the top fans - except at cons where people whose behaviours I know of only as mythical creatures actually manifest themselves into real people who really do that kind of stuff. So embarrassed for them...
