Question for Holmes canon fans
Jan. 11th, 2012 08:37 pmI have a question for those who like Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. How many times was Watson married? I think that only once - he married Mary before Holmes' apparent death and lost her shortly before Holmes came back after which followed the whole thing with Holmes secretly giving money to some distant relative of his so that he could buy out Watson's practice and the good doctor could move back together with Holmes.
Some follow-up authors mention more than one marriage but is there a canonical proof of that? Doyle wasn't all that much into details - he couldn't remember if Watson was shot in the leg or in the shoulder, after all - so he could've mixed up the dates of the various stories making it look like Watson had more than one wife but is it somewhere said outright that Watson was married more than once? I couldn't find it anywhere...
