Notes: This is a bit obscure, to be honest. Just something that popped up in my mind when I saw the last scene. And a big thanks to yami_tai for her beta!


There's a strange scent under the black acrid smoke rising from the airplane. Peter notices it just for a moment, before the wind carries it away – and then he doesn't think about it anymore because he's holding a crying Neal in his arms, Neal who's screaming himself hoarse, fighting him.

It's much later that he smells it again, wafting from the kitchen; the smoke alarm's going crazy and El's cursing a blue streak over their ruined dinner. And he realizes...

It was meat. Burning, broiling meat.

Bile rises in his throat and he almost doesn't make it to the bathroom in time.
