Man, this show! I love that it tackles so many issues, like abuse or gay rights or war veterans - and that's 20 years ago! I adored Grady's reaction when Malloy revealed to him that her brother was gay. Grady went all, "Yeaaaaaah? And?" while "holier than thou" Adam had a problem with it! Malloy was so happy to have a shoulder to lean on in Grady. And she was so happy when he told her that he would love to meet her brother one day.

I love that Grady simply doesn't judge. You're a beaten wife? He'll offer any help you want WHEN you want it, he won't force his help on you. You're a single mom who gave up her kid for adoption? He will help you make sure the kid is safe. You unknowingly covered up a drug trafficking ring? He will steal the paperwork that could get you jailed. You used to be a junkie but now you need help to keep your kid? No problem, you USED to be a junkie, you're not using anymore and you deserve help. He's amazing!

Well, and then there's the number of times he ended up in jail *cringes* Captain Pine even told Adam that maybe Grady should join their loser benefit program because he has been arrested so many times already he deserved a private cell at their precinct. LOL! I mean, he usually ends up in jail because he tried to help someone, which Adam gets - even though it frustrates him to no end!

Which brings me to Miguel Mendez. LOL, he and Grady! Their first meeting is pretty much legendary: Grady wiped the floor with Miguel's whole gang - and Miguel pulled a gun on him. That was in the first few episodes. By the end of S1? They are besties and partners in crime! And because Miguel is out on parole, when they are caught doing something they shouldn't, Grady usually takes the fall for him, because he doesn't mind spending a few days in jail - what's American jail after 10 years in a Vietnamese prison? - because Miguel would do serious time. I adored the ep where Grady once again ended up in prison and on the mob hit list, too, and Miguel mobilized his old gang pals in that prison to make sure nothing happened to Grady. Their friendship is incredibly sweet!

Also, on a very shallow note, Grady looks amazing in all black, kicking major ass - or driving his bike! Sheesh, it's hot!

If you haven't seen this show yet, do give it a try, it's awesome!

ETA: I just looked up what happened with Bryan Genesse who plays Grady. He used to be a B movie action star. But he stopped acting altogether in 2009 and opened his own dojo where he teaches Brasilian Jiu Jitsu. He also won many medals in this discipline. He seems very happy, married with two kids. It looks like he dropped acting after his daughter was born in 2008. Nice! I'm happy he's happy :)

I bet nobody on my flist knows this show - which is a shame because it's awesome. So, let me pimp it to you...

Street Justice was a syndicated show that ran from 1991 to 1993. What was it about? Well.

This is Adam Beaudreaux. He’s a cop and a Vietnam War veteran (it’s the 90s!). For 20 years he has been searching for a young boy named Grady Jameson. Grady was the son of Canadian missionaries in Vietnam. They were killed by the Viet Cong and little Grady was rescued by Adam. Because all paperwork on Grady was lost, he stayed in the US military camp for months and he and Adam became inseparable. So much so that Grady started seeing Adam as his father. But then, while Adam’s unit was on patrol, the Viet Cong raided the camp and Grady was lost.

Fast forward 20 years.

This is Grady Jameson. Not a little boy anymore but a hard-edged young man, pragmatic to the point of cruelty. His favorite saying is, “It’s your laws, not mine!” As a teen, Grady spent 10 years in a Vietnamese prison, abused by both his inmates and the guards - yes, sexual abuse is HEAVILY implied. And he learned to defend himself. He became an expert on martial arts and he breaks bones first, asks questions later. His reunion with Adam doesn’t go well because Grady is after one of Adam’s perps - he plans to kill the man and he won’t let anything stop him.

The whole show reminds me so much of White Collar, only Adam is a cop, not an FBI agent, and Grady is a martial artist, not a conman. But the same relationship as between Peter and Neal applies here: Adam is Grady’s big brother/father figure and he has his hands full trying to keep Grady out of trouble.

There are other characters, too. Like Malloy, a blond woman with no first name, who owns a bar and gives Grady a job and a place to stay, she’s also Adam’s best friend. Then Miguel Mendez joins the show, a gang member trying to reform himself(Grady and Miguel's first meeting couldn't be worse - Grady wipes the floor with Miguel's whole gang and Miguel pulls a gun on Grady). Plus Adam’s cop buddies - one of whom is played by Eric McCormack! And speaking of actors, since Bryan Genesse was a 90s B-movie action star (similar to Joe Lara, Gary Daniels, David Bradley, Michael Dudikoff etc.), some of his movie buddies pop up in the show here and there which is quite interesting!

Both seasons of this show are out on DVD and I can highly recommend it if you like WhiCo and/or B action movies.
