I bet nobody on my flist knows this show - which is a shame because it's awesome. So, let me pimp it to you...

Street Justice was a syndicated show that ran from 1991 to 1993. What was it about? Well.

This is Adam Beaudreaux. He’s a cop and a Vietnam War veteran (it’s the 90s!). For 20 years he has been searching for a young boy named Grady Jameson. Grady was the son of Canadian missionaries in Vietnam. They were killed by the Viet Cong and little Grady was rescued by Adam. Because all paperwork on Grady was lost, he stayed in the US military camp for months and he and Adam became inseparable. So much so that Grady started seeing Adam as his father. But then, while Adam’s unit was on patrol, the Viet Cong raided the camp and Grady was lost.

Fast forward 20 years.

This is Grady Jameson. Not a little boy anymore but a hard-edged young man, pragmatic to the point of cruelty. His favorite saying is, “It’s your laws, not mine!” As a teen, Grady spent 10 years in a Vietnamese prison, abused by both his inmates and the guards - yes, sexual abuse is HEAVILY implied. And he learned to defend himself. He became an expert on martial arts and he breaks bones first, asks questions later. His reunion with Adam doesn’t go well because Grady is after one of Adam’s perps - he plans to kill the man and he won’t let anything stop him.

The whole show reminds me so much of White Collar, only Adam is a cop, not an FBI agent, and Grady is a martial artist, not a conman. But the same relationship as between Peter and Neal applies here: Adam is Grady’s big brother/father figure and he has his hands full trying to keep Grady out of trouble.

There are other characters, too. Like Malloy, a blond woman with no first name, who owns a bar and gives Grady a job and a place to stay, she’s also Adam’s best friend. Then Miguel Mendez joins the show, a gang member trying to reform himself(Grady and Miguel's first meeting couldn't be worse - Grady wipes the floor with Miguel's whole gang and Miguel pulls a gun on Grady). Plus Adam’s cop buddies - one of whom is played by Eric McCormack! And speaking of actors, since Bryan Genesse was a 90s B-movie action star (similar to Joe Lara, Gary Daniels, David Bradley, Michael Dudikoff etc.), some of his movie buddies pop up in the show here and there which is quite interesting!

Both seasons of this show are out on DVD and I can highly recommend it if you like WhiCo and/or B action movies.
