Clamp's "Tokyo Babylon Vol. 1+2" (manga), #10, #11

Vol.1: Even knowing how this manga series ends - I mean, this is one of the most famous stories in the history of manga, after all - it's strangely alluring. Subaru Sumeragi and Seishiro Sakurazuka, the healer and the killer... Hokuto, Subaru's twin, kinda gets on my nerves though. But the juxtaposition of Seishiro - the good-hearted vet vs. the cold-blooded Sakurazukamori... Wow. Clamp really knows how to push boundaries.

My favorite drawing? Seishiro standing by the window with the shikigami, the shadow bird, sitting on his outstretched arm.

Vol.2: It's really creepy, the way Seishiro can be so kind and caring, then as if a switch was flipped, he's suddenly heartless, cruel, even devious. I wonder if he really doesn't feel anything for Subaru, nothing at all...

I'm also happy that it's a series that the mangaka actually finished!

I think they gave up on finishing X/1999 because of the series and the ova. Since the two had alternate endings and the story was basically already told, it was like they'd be rehashing it again for the third time. I guess a completely different ending from the series and the ova never occurred to them.

Hm, the last time I heard of it - and I admit it's been some time - Clamp was swearing up and down that they would finish X, that there were only three vols to be done as there are 21 tarot cards. But who knows...

I had only the first two parts at home. Now that I'm caught up on Card Captor Sakura - the next part of the new edition won't come out until March - I think I'll get the rest of Tokyo Babylon. Unfortunately, the bunko format in which I have the first two parts is sold out in Germany. Too bad, the manga looks great like that.
