Rewatching SGA: Echoes
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:13 pmOh, Echoes, how I love thee! \o/ This is one of the eps where I feel the team love strongest. And of course, it was written by Carl Binder, the master of cheerful team!eps! John and Rodney and the whales, Ronon and Teyla and their meditation... Sweet! I want to squeeze the ep silly! I mean, not only did we get a real sci-fi plot, we got to explore Lantea a bit and there was adventure and humor and h/c and exploring and... Yes, I'm very, very, VERY much in love with this episode!
McKAY: Huh! Hey. How long have you been standing there?
SHEPPARD: Hour or so.
McKAY: What?! Why didn't you say anything? I feel like a ... Oh. It's the kidding.
SHEPPARD: What did you wanna show me?
McKAY: Right there.
SHEPPARD: Wow!
McKAY: Hmm!
SHEPPARD: All that ... water!
DEX: You ask me, it's too much meditation.
McKAY: There you are.
WEIR: Rodney, I told you ...
McKAY: Oh, no, not you. I mean Sheppard.
WEIR: Thank you!
McKAY: Oh, I mean, not that I don't wanna talk to you. Well, you *can* be a part of this conversation. In fact, I think you'll probably find it every bit as interesting ...
SHEPPARD: What are you saying?
SHEPPARD: That's Rodney's whale friend.
McKAY: Ah, but not actually a whale. Whale-like, but not a mammal. It's a fish. It's a big, big fish.
SHEPPARD: Did the Ancients have a name for it?
McKAY: Yeah. Flagecallus. I know – they were terrible at naming things. I've just, um ... I've just called it "whale" for now.
WEIR: And how d'you know he's a he?
McKAY: Oh, because I cross-referenced the renderings in the database with the whale outside and, you'll see ... the males have a rather prominent ...
WEIR: Oh, it's OK, never mind. I'll take your word for it.
SHEPPARD: So, these, uh, whales. Did the Ancients say they're good eating?
McKAY: Oh, you wouldn't!
SHEPPARD: I would.
McKAY: I've been monitoring Sam on the underwater scanner ...
SHEPPARD: Stop calling him that.
McKAY: Why?
SHEPPARD: It's creepy!
SHEPPARD: Rodney?
(Rodney carries on working. John frowns.)
SHEPPARD: Canadian football league's a joke.
(Rodney carries on working.)
SHEPPARD: Celine Dion is over-rated.
(Rodney carries on working.)
SHEPPARD: Zelenka is smarter than you are!
McKAY (loudly, still looking at his screen): Hey! I found mention of a bio-lab in the database!
(John rolls his eyes.)
McKAY (loudly, still looking at his screen): Ancient scientists used it to study animal life. We should check it out!
SHEPPARD: OK ... Meredith.
WEIR: How's he doing?
SHEPPARD: I don't know. He's taking a while. A lot longer than he usually takes.
McKAY: He *can* hear you, you know!
SHEPPARD: Yeah. We know.
McKAY: That's what's been taking me so long to figure out.
SHEPPARD: Well, did you figure it out?
McKAY: Well, let's have a listen, shall we?
(He types on the laptop. The distorted voice plays again. John smiles smugly.)
SHEPPARD: Guess the answer's no.
McKAY: Well, a lot of animals – whales, dolphins ...
ZELENKA: ... pigeons ...
McKAY: ... are affected by the tiniest anomalies in the magnetosphere. It's as if their internal compasses are somehow ... uh ... pigeons?!
McKAY: Maybe I was so insistent on keeping them because I too am able to sense trouble on the horizon.
SHEPPARD: Just like a pigeon.
TEYLA: If you fall asleep *one* more time ...
Yes, many, many quotes. Rodney's all riled up, John's all sarcastic - I loved it when he called Rodney first Meredith, then later on a pigeon! - Teyla is so cute and zen and Ronon all gruff and caring! I just have such insane love for this episode! \o/

Date: 2009-12-22 01:55 pm (UTC)You're very welcome! I like to share the love of podfics. :p The Podmods at Amplificathon are still adding more in spurts. They're actually having technical difficulties now with a particular podfic (SGA, "The Kids Are Alright"), so things have slowed up.

Date: 2009-12-23 06:52 pm (UTC)Koschka's gen series, found here (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/738014/) (numbers 11 through 3, in that order), and Liketheriver's gen series, The Dictionary Series (http://liketheriverrun.livejournal.com/12125.html) (right at the top), are to be read first, although you can read either series first. Only then should you proceed to their combined Geeks and Goons slash series, at their Likethekoschka ff.net page (http://liketheriverrun.livejournal.com/12125.html) (of course, read from bottom to top). Each individual story in the series is long, so it tends to take awhile to read, but it's totally worth it. Personally, I think it's some of the truest characterization in fandom.
Enjoy! :D
