It's time to post my favorite female TV characters of this year. Only one character per show to not make it any easier ;)

Camille Saroyan (Bones)

Kensi Blye (NCIS:LA)

Elizabeth Burke (White Collar)

Teresa Lisbon (The Mentalist)

Ziva David (NCIS)

I think that there are many likable, kick-ass female characters on TV these days! Characters that are strong without being bitchy - which is what I hate about women on TV most, when writers mistake bitchiness for strength.

And what's your Top 5?

Kensi kicks ass in *every* way. I love that she'll just step between Sam and G when they get going at it and that she was willing to pee in a car in front of Dom - insisted on it in fact.

And at the same time, she's willing to stagger into work in her little black dress still hungover from her previous date. She's flawed, but she's okay with that. :)

Exactly. She kicks major butt but she's still elegant and funny and gorgeous. I don't mind that she's the only female on the team because it gives her more to do and it makes her presence that more special.

Hetty is quite awesome too, of course ;)

Looking at your list, I realized that I don't watch TV enough to make a list. :P The only current shows I make a point of never missing are QI and 30 Rock.

But my one scripted show has the best female character on TV, so there's that.

I don't watch 30 Rock. I've got too much on the plate as it is XP And what's QI?

QI is a British panel show led by Stephen Fry. It's a bit hit and miss - a lot depends on the guests, but when it's good it's completely hilarious. And hey, you learn interesting trivia while watching. ;)

Hehe, the only British show that I saw when I was in London a couple of weeks ago was Mythbusters which was awesome! Thank you for the links! :)

seraphina_snape: Parker from the TV show Leverage. She is wearing a white shirt and is smiling. (BlackBooks_ Burger!Bernard)

You don't know QI?! Seriously, you have to check it out. It's absolutely hilarious at times. After watching series 1 I made it a rule that I can't drink and watch QI at the same time - less of a chance that I'll choke on my drink because I'm laughing so hard. And I'm still sticking to that rule.

This is such a good question! Here are my top 5 from current TV shows:

5. Camille Saroyan (Bones)
4. Guinevere (Merlin)
3. Sue Sylvester (Glee)
2. Brenda Leigh Johnson (The Closer)
1. Temperance Brennan (Bones)

The order is subject to change. I'd also like to give big kudos to the original Ruby on Supernatural. She and Ellen were my favorite ladies on that show.

I didn't know that you watched Merlin!

I love both Cam and Bones, the only female that I don't like much is Angela because I just can't identify with her behavior...

And I still haven't watched The Closer. I catch a half of an ep or there but that's it :(

Glee isn't kinda my thing :( I used to be a great fan of the old show Fame but that was a long time ago...

*nods* I agree, especially for Cam. I adore her, she is beautiful, smart and such a lovely person.

And so quirky! The way she reacts to her crazy lab rats!

I can only think of 4 at the moment :

1. Scully of the The X-Files
2. Brennan of Bones.
3. Ellen of SPN
4. Jamie of Mad About You.

I was trying to do shows that are currently on air - and there are so many amazing women on these days! It was hard to settle down on five!

And I so agree about Scully - that's the difference between X-Files and Fringe for me - Anna Torv just isn't Gillian Anderson :( I bought the whole collection of X-Files for myself for Xmas so I plan to gorge on it till I bloat!
