SPN's ratings - ouch!

Supernatural dropped but not as much as I feared - I suspected 2.3-2.5 mil. and 1.0/2 demo. It got 2.62 mil. and 1.2/3 demo - viewership was lower than usual but demo stayed as usual. And despite CSI and GA premiering, it dropped only 160.000 - Fringe's premiere hit it much harder so it's probable that Fringe is hurting its numbers more than CSI or GA. I hope that next Thursday, it'll go up again, even if slightly.
But still, ouch!
On the other hand:
Please, don't let it drop any lower. Please *crosses fingers*

On the other hand:
Now in its 5th season, SUPERNATURAL has seen its ratings grow over last season by 27% with women 18-34 (1.4/4), 9% in adults 18-34 (1.2/3) and 8% in women 18-49 (1.3/3).
SUPERNATURAL faced tougher competition (against the “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI” premieres), and still retained 92% of last week’s adults 18-34 rating (1.2/3), 100% of its adults 18-49 audience (1.2/3) and 94% in total viewers (2.62mil). Source

Date: 2009-09-25 05:53 pm (UTC)The sad thing about those numbers is that they're still far and away some of the CW's best. We've never been a strong performer in the key demos, but the improvement this year means we're doing far better than The Beautiful Life and we're level with Melrose Place in W18-34. Which is ridiculous - there's no way a show like SPN, which appeals rather equally to M18-34 and W18-34 at the moment, should be level in W18-34 with a show that appeals only to W18-34. (Seriously - Melrose got less than 1.5 million viewers and like a 1.45 in W18-34 - that indicates around 70% of the viewers are in that W18-34 group, with the rest probably being in F12-17.)
I'll be really curious to see the DVR numbers for the first couple episodes, because I want to see how many people had to watch later simply because of the competition.

Date: 2009-09-25 06:06 pm (UTC)I think that Fringe is in bigger troubles at the moment. I really do hope that they'll move it, maybe switch it again with Hell's Kitchen? Back to Tuesday? It would help SPN a lot!

Date: 2009-09-25 06:51 pm (UTC)But Grey's Anatomy was huge. Like really huge. 17 mil. and 6.6/16 demo! That's House's numbers. And SPN faired better against it than OTH/GoGi against House so... And there was also CSI's premiere with 15.7 mil. and 4.1/10 in demo and The Office with 7.3 mil. and 3.8/10.
Basically SPN and Fringe killed each other's viewers and then they were steamrolled by the big guns. But SPN still faired better than Fringe as it didn't drop anything in demo and only 160 th. in viewers.
And you believe that the CW will promote SPN? O.O Really?
I think that as long as SPN doesn't sink any lower, we might still see S6. If the CW doesn't fold, that is. I mean, what else would they stick there? Against a power house in the female demo like GA?

Date: 2009-09-25 07:15 pm (UTC)Promote a certain guest star that has their fanbase in their female teen demo? I think in that case they might make an exception. Or the guest star will promote themselves. :D

No idea. Isn't there another 90s soap they can redo? *g* Or maybe an 80s one. How about Dallas High - "sexy bad boy" J.R.Ewing or Dynasty 2.0 - Teeangers who are oil millionaires. Or Falcon Crest.
If the CW doesn't fold, that is.
I think that is the bigger risk right now compared to cancellation. As well as the DVD sold, WB would probably be interested in another Season. And it would be high time for a syndie deal right now.
