Show with a team =/= a team show

You know, it's really hard to explain to someone that just because a show features a team, it doesn't mean that it'll be necessarily viewed as a team show. Sounds weird? Well...

There are many shows out there, procedurals or sci-fi or whatnot, where problems are solved by a team, right? CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds... But in some of them, if not in most, you don't really feel the... "team spirit", I would call it, I guess. Sure, they work together, but they would climb over each other's back to further their career or get forward or gain something - see CSI or Without a Trace.

And then there are shows where the team is everything, it's family, it's something precious you never ever betray. Examples? Stargate Atlantis or NCIS. The team members hang out with each other outside their jobs, they are ready to sacrifice anything for each other, be it life or career.

But the difference is really hard to explain. Either you feel it or not...

I totally agree on that, that's why NCIS is one of my favourite shows ever. You feel that Gibbs (and the others too) would do anything for his friends.
