Synopsis: Kirk and McCoy accompany Spock to the Vulcan Academy Hospital seeking experimental treatment for a badly wounded Enterprise crew member. Spock's mother is also a patient in the hospital, and Kirk soon becomes involved in the complex drama of Spock's family... Suddenly, patients are dying, and Kirk suspects the unthinkable -- murder on Vulcan! But can he convince the Vulcans that something as illogical as murder is possible? Until the Killer is caught, everyone is in danger!

Review: This book would deserve four stars for the beautiful setting and all the insight in the life of the people on Vulcan - I loved Corrigan and Sorel. But only two for the actual plot. The culprit was obvious from the get-go and Kirk fumbled the investigation really badly. Wow, I couldn't believe that he was the captain of the Enterprise, he behaved like a love-struck rookie!

If I'm remebering correctly back to my high school days and fanzines, she started off as a fanfic writer. I think she wrote Sarek/Amanda fics.

Yes, it's pretty obvious what's her main focus. I think she just wanted to write about these two and the plot was slapped on later on :(

Oh that's sad that they failed so much at Kirk, I would have loved to have read more stuff with Amanda (and I'm assuming Sarek) in it. Poopy!

Plus sounds like what count have been an intriguing mystery was way to blah and easy.

For the first time, I understood what Rodney meant when he called John "Kirk". I mean, Kirk really does think with his dick when he comes across a beautiful woman, doesn't he? *sigh*

The Vulcan setting was quite good and since I've never read anything about Vulcan itself and the customs of its people, it was very interesting for me. But someone should have really helped the author with the mystery part. That was painful. I felt like yelling at Kirk for his stupidity.

Hee! When [livejournal.com profile] khaleesian was here last week I was going through my ST:TOS books trying to find something to show her and that was one of the books I ran across.

It's been years! since I read any of those books. But I've held on to them through several moves.

I've bought like a TON of ST books these last couple of weeks. Through a friend and used because most of them are totally sold out. This book sounded quite interesting but I think that this author really needed a co-author for the mystery part. She came up with interesting characters, but the plot was awful.

And since it's been years, you really should re-read them! I feel like I'm the only one reading these tie-ins *pouts* Besides, I don't know what's good and what's not in this fandom. Stargate? Yes. Star Trek? No.

I picked various series and books: some ST:TOS, ST:TNG, ST:E, ST: Titan, ST: New Frontier... I have yet to come across some interesting ST:V or ST:DS9 though. I'm a Chakotay!girl and a Bashir!girl. From what I understand, there's a series of books set after ST:V where Chakotay becomes the captain of a ship of his own... Might be interesting :)
