On the state of books

katikat* I'm approximately in the middle of my translation of R. A. Salvatore's "Crystal Shard". His writing style really does get better with time - though his themes get weaker and more soap-opera-ish with every book. Go figure.
* I crossed the midpoint in Wen Spencer's "Endless Blue". I love scifi of the exploring kind better than military scifi so this book is right up my alley - though I did like her Ukiah Oregon series better.
* My boss sent me Sarah Jane Stratford's "The Midnight Guardian" manuscript for evaluation and, uh, no, just no. It is about vampires - but in Hitler's Reich where Nazi soldiers hunt them down and this one female vampire is trying to escape to England where the love of her life awaits her. I'm just sick of WW2 and Hitler and the Nazis. They crammed it down our collective throats at the university and now, whenever I see anything even remotely linked to that, I feel my hackles rise. Ick!
