Castiel

Chicago Tribune posted a very spoilery article about Supernatural - I skipped the spoilers but I loved what Sera Gamble said about the character of Castiel and how he fits in the overall story:

"Being wrapped up with what's going on with Sam and Dean is really dangerous for an angel like Castiel. He is getting to like Dean quite a bit. Dean is a terrible influence on an angel, I think. Because everything about Dean's way of looking at the world is completely antithetical to being an angel, which is all about obedience and following the party line and doing what you're told without question. And there's a certain sort of stoicism to Castiel that is the opposite of the Winchesters. The more he gets in with the Winchesters, the more he's in danger of getting trouble in terms of his job."

I don't quite get the part about Dean being antithetical to being an angel. Hadn't he been exactly that when he was with John, daddy's good little soldier?

True, that he was but he isn't anymore. Just like Sam was very much against killing and now he doesn't mind so much anymore. I think that Castiel is what Dean once was but isn't anymore. That's why Dean's attitude is so dangerous for Castiel. For an angel that's like hanging out with a fallen angel and realizing that the fallen one's ideas aren't so bad after all.
