[livejournal.com profile] oddmonster, luv? Anyone else who read Brent Weeks' "The Way of Shadow"? I got to the part where the big murdering started in Cenaria - but now I'm getting totally lost in the abundance of names and titles, in the sheer amount of characters and plot lines...

a) So, Roth is a wytch/mage, right? Momma K. saw the ki on his arms, right?
b) Hu Gibbet is a female wetboy but everybody thinks that Hu is a male, right?
c) Now that Logan is in prison for murder and treason, everybody knows that Kyllar is a wetboy too, right?
d) Jarl worked for Roth but now he works for Momma K. and he has no obligations toward Roth, right?
e) Why did Momma K. set Durzo Blint and Kyllar against each other?

So far, my favorite character is Jarl. He's a gorgeous male prostitute and I love that he's becoming more and more powerful. I'm intrigued.

Hee.

a) Yes on both counts.
b) Hu is male. The only female wetboy is Viridiana.
c) Which part are you at?
d) Correct on both counts.
e) Momma K pitted the two of them against each other because Roth has a hold on her: he can kill her daughter. She chose her daughter's safety over the two of them. I think that's one of my favorite parts, actually, because that's very much how someone would react in that situation, I think.

Keep going! It gets super awesome!

I'm at the point where they killed Logan's wife and dragged him away to the dungeons.

The book's really interesting but there are waaaaaaaaay too many characters to keep track of. Well, most of them are dead by now so that makes it easier. I felt so sorry when they killed the queen and Logan's father :(

Hmm. I found myself pleasantly surprised by how well the characters were drawn out and distinguished, but different strokes for different folks. And I know, I felt bad about Logan's father's death too. But keep going! It's totally about to go supernova.

(Thanks for reading this btw. These little updates are making me all bouncy!)

I think it's because I'm more used to books told either from 1st person's POV or from the POV of one person so the action doesn't jump so much from one place to another. I find it a bit hard to just keep all the names and connections in my mind.

It reminds me of Tom Lloyd's Stormcaller where you had a ton of characters popping up all over the place and you had to scramble to make a connection between them.
