Wow, I'm floored. My Sports Night DVDs arrived. I ordered them last Tuesday from Canada! The delivery date was set for Jan. 31th 2009! And they are here. Now. Instead of a month, it took the box set not even a week to arrive! I'm... floored. I have no words. Wow!

Also, and now I will be very rude, I have had fucking enough of people who watch Supernatural - I can't call them fans - complaining about the series being either a Dean!show or a Sam!show. For Christ's sake! There are stories that need to be told and sometimes it's Dean's story, sometimes Sam's. I didn't complain when at the beginning, one of the main storylines was Sam going/not going dark. I won't complain now that Dean's discovering what role he plays in the whole Heaven vs. Hell thing. I like both storylines, evil!Sammy and angelic!Dean, or what do you want to call them. Why does it have to be the one or the other? *hands* Like children, really. I still like the show but the fandom is nuts! X(

I learned to stay very far away from the crazy SPN fangirls. These are the same ones who freak out if a female - any female - shows up on their show. I don't understand them.

Is there wank going on again? I tend to steer clear of fandom as a whole. Lurking on the edges with whatever like-minded folk you cmanage to find is a far safer option!

Fandom is a scary place, populated by insane people who manage only to give more sensible and open-minded fans a bad name.

I'm very impressed with that postal service, especially at this time of the year!

Not really a wank. TV Guide's Mega Minute spoiler thread posted someone's question about when we would finally see more Sam and others started commenting how Dean didn't deserve so much attention... Argh!

Ah, I see. Well, it is true that we've not been getting much insight into what's going on in Sam's head this season, but I thought it was pretty clear that was for narrative reasons, building up to his big confession in 4.09. He's had plenty of storyline. *shrugs* I'll just stick to my policy of avoiding spoilers and spoiler discussions. Safer!

LOL Imagine some of these fans trying to cope with an ensemble cast and the resulting restrictions on individual airtime and storyline!

Actually, I don't mind the incest part *shrugs* Some people don't like incest stories, some don't like slash stories, some hate BDSM or threesomes... When I don't like the pairing/warnings, I just don't read the fic - I, for example, avoid het fics :) And did you know that someone actually wrote a paper, a real paper at a university, about Wincest and its use in fanfiction?

SPN's not the only fandom that does that. People are slashing the Petrelli brothers in the Heroes fandom, and there're loads of fanfics pairing the brothers Faramir/Boromir, and the elf twins in LOTR. Not saying it's right, but hey, everyone has their kinks. To some, slashing male on male is already a deep, dark kink. Just saying.

You know, there are shows where I really don't see the slash/incest. For example, I can't see any ship between Nathan and Peter. I just don't see it. With SPN, it's the setting that makes it believable for me - I mean, the Winchesters basically lived in a closed society of three where Sam and Dean where the only ones even close in age. And the fact that John kept hammering the point of not trusting anybody but your brother... that could have twisted something in an already hurt child's brain... For me, it's just another interesting layer added by the fandom.

I'm a bit squicked by Nathan/Peter pairing, because to me Nathan looks old enough to be Peter's father! But to each his own. And you know, liking Wincest doesn't mean I'm condoning incest in RL. It's fiction after all, and while you're at it, how about those stories on murders and such? And also, not all in the fandom are into wincest!

As for that other thing, I believe it's getting worse because all the online bloggers, buddyTV, Aussiello etc, keep promoting it by choosing certain questions to feature and phrasing their tidbits a certain way or the neverending polls/awards of doom and voila, you have 800 comments of wankitude. Which of course is what they want, the number of comments that is.

I'm trying to find a way to only immerse myself in the creative fanworks side of fandom and contain the discussion stuff on my flist and the odd board stuff.

Yeah, I think that you're right. I read the latest Mega Minute on TV Guide where someone asked when we would finally see some Sam storyline again. And of course, people started commenting on how Dean didn't deserve so much attention... I would like to see the situation turned around, how those same people would defend Sam being in the spotlight.

I had heard about the TV Guide thing but didn't check the comments until now. And sure enough there is Bright (the last person on the planet who has not moved on beyond the fact that back on Dark Angel Alec was kind of, maybe a rival to the Logan/Max relationship and therefore Jensen is public enemy nr.1) and sockpuppets. You can count on them for any kind of SPN wank.

Luckily this time she left out her usual song of "Jensen is a bad, overrated soap actor". This time it's only "I'd like Dean to disappear for a few episodes" and "Sam-episodes have higher ratings." Move on, twit. For the love of God, move on. Preferably to another fandom.

I've kinda started chalking SPN fen crazy up to a combination of first fandom and not knowing how a TV show is supposed to work.

I mean we have a main cast consisting of two people and that is difficult as anything to write an interesting episode about without getting sick of these two guys. And then coupled with the fact that in a normal ensemble there is no way in hell you're gonna get those kinda character centric epis so often for a certain character. It's a gift people, so stop complaining about it.

Also on what irritates me lots would be the people who are constantly talking about how mean/cruel Sam is to his brother. Especially when he makes some sort of cutting remark. *facepalm*

Well, I would admit that for me SPN was always a Dean show. With his brother being there, obviously, because he had to be there, because he was Dean's other half, but still basically a Dean show. So yeah, in conclusion, Dean.

Now the actual plot, no matter what, concerns them both, so all I can say is bzuh?

I got into the show because of the concept of brothers. As long as there's brotherly affection, I will be happy. But in every show, I always choose one character and latch on it - here's Dean too but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy Sam's storyline too. I wouldn't want to have a series just about Dean, after all. Dean wouldn't be as adorable without Sam :)
