US balks at backing condemnation of anti-gay laws

Alone among major Western nations, the United States has refused to sign a declaration presented Thursday at the United Nations calling for worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

For once, I'm proud that I'm not a citizen of the USA. Go, Europe! Go!

It's not about legal reasons, it's about bigotry and fear. They are too afraid to stand up for what's right. I can't see the US signing this any time soon. And that's just sad. How can someone be fired from the military just for being gay is beyond me. How can America stand for that is beyond me. It's so dark ages that I find that simply apalling. If someone tried that here in Europe, they would have their ass in a court before they could yell for their lawyer.

I just don't get how the US can sink so low. I mean, to refuse to sign a treaty against punishing homosexuality with death... That's unthinkable!
