Supernatural 4x04
Oct. 10th, 2008 07:19 pmYou know, I can understand that some people might not like the new direction the show's taking - because I'm kinda one of them. What drew me to this show was that it was Sam and Dean vs. the world. No matter how sad and depressing the ep was, it always ended on the high note of the brothers being the "united front", so to speak. From the very beginning I was saying that I didn't want to see Sam and Dean as enemies, fighting on the opposite sites and I really hope that the show won't go there. That would disappoint me terribly.
Though I did understand both sides of the argument here, Sam's and Dean's too. Dean sacrificed everything, his life, his soul, his conscience to keep Sam safe and now that he realizes that it might not be enough, that Sam might be consciously undermining all his efforts, he's pissed and scared and he lashes out. I think he was more angry about the fact that Sam lied to him than about him using his powers even though Dean asked him not to. On the other hand Sam is right too - he really is saving people where before they had to kill them and the power to save them is more important to him than his own salvation. And he didn't tell Dean just because he simply didn't know how. So yeah, I understand both of them and I want to slap both of them silly!
Other than that - too much gore, Kripke! Less is sometimes more!
You know what this episode reminded me off? The movie Hemoglobin or Bleeders (alternative title) with Roy Dupuis and Rutger Hauer. Ick, scary!
Promo for next week.

Date: 2008-10-10 05:45 pm (UTC)Both Js acting was on stop, terrific.
And I don't like the Dean x Sam idea either. This is not who they are, they are brothers before anything.

Date: 2008-10-11 08:33 am (UTC)The thing to remember is, is that Kripke and Co know the reason why most people tune in is for Sam and dean against the world, and while they're pushing the boys apart at the moment, they're canny enough to realise that the fans won't tolerate this separation for long. So I'm sure they'll start herding them back together before long, although there will be angst in between, I can almost gaurantee.
