I listened to Gateworld's podcast where David Hewlett talked about filming The Shrine. Some things surprised me, other stuff amused me...

What surprised me: David is convinced that McKay and Sheppard don't spend much time together. When I heard that I really felt like scratching my head. I mean, Rodney and John played The Game for two years in their spare time. Then they played chess. Oh, and let's not forget the computer golf game in Quarantine. Lately, Rodney just barges into John's room without even knocking and then there are the missions of course! I mean, if they spent more time together, they would be joined at the hip!

What amused me: David thinks that McKay wants to be like Sheppard, the dashing hero XD That was so funny! Oh, and he has the feeling that Rodney and Jennifer's relationship is doomed. He's convinced that Rodney will do something dumb/bad and they will break up in the end. That made me actually laugh!

Oh, and I started reading Sally Malcolm's "Rising" the novelization of SGA's pilot. And it's so good! Like really awesome! I love the inner monologues and thoughts of the main heroes. My favorite lines so far?

Jack O'Neill: "The snowfield went on forever. It was enough to render a penguin snow-blind."
Rodney McKay: "In fact, he was almost certain that it was actually a facet of the ongoing cosmic joke fate liked to have at his expense."
John Sheppard: "... and Sheppard sidled closer in the hope of eavesdropping. Or as he preferred to think of it, gathering intel."

Sally Malcom writers them perfectly!

Hmmm that is interesting. Yet think of it this way. Sheppard is the head of the military of a base and Rodney of all things science.

What spare time do they really have when not going on missions? Sure they go geek things, but keep in mind that in the workplace, you spend more time with your co-workers than when you get home to your 'family' so it makes sense.

I honestly think John spends more outside 'work' time with Ronon. Jason says Ronon's best friend is John...and they've hinted in eppys that those two do hang out a lot.

Guess its about how your qualify as 'spend time together'.

True, but then, in Atlantis, they are almost always at work thus the mandatory day off in Sunday XP

I think that Ronon and John are best friends. But what I didn't see was Rodney and Carson being best friends because what we saw of Rodney's spare time, he spent it with Sheppard doing cool geeky things or in his lab.

I think that for John, they are both great friends. With Ronon, he can chill out physically. With Rodney, he can geek to his heart's content XP

The Carson and Rodney BFF things was made up by Martin G who killed him...I think he wanted some 'moment' at the end--since to me that line came out of the blue. I don't subscribe to Carsn being Rodney's best friend...good friends of course..best? No, me thinks that is John.

It's actually awesome to see how their relationship changed since Rising. I watched the whole Atlantis in under three months, one ep after the other and when you see them in the very first scene they have together and compare it to The Shrine, it's... wow! "Character development" doesn't even begin to cover it!
