I just parted ways with an LJ friend with whom I've been friends for a long time. We had our disagreements in the past, clashes where hurtful things were said. Now she accused me of spoiling her with my last post about SPN. I apologized for it but I'm still convinced that I didn't do anything wrong. When I told her to show me, to quote what spoiler I posted outside of a cut, she accused me that I "keep spoiling people" that I'm not "sensitive to others" - which she then edited out of her comment, go figure - and in her last comment, she told me that I was immature because I couldn't admit that I made a mistake and instead I took her off my flist whereas in my last comment, I told her that she was reading way too much into my words and suggested that we parted our ways so that I wouldn't spoil her in the future anymore. I even wished her good luck and much enjoyment of the show... *sigh*

Various people see various things as spoilers. I'm doing my best to cut the spoilers or make them vague enough so that they tell zip about what's going on. If you feel that I'm spoiling you, please, de-friend me now. I don't want to see a similar thing happening again.

I had someone get mad at me once for revealing who would be voicing a character. It's very hard to tell what people will consider a spoiler.

The thing is all I did was basically say, in a House sort of way, "Robert Sean Leonard and S5". I just really don't get how this is a spoiler *head/desk*

It just makes me sad, you know? For a similar reason, I had to cut Solitude1056 (or what were the numbers) some time back, when I was still in the anime fandom. I posted something outside a cut 8 weeks after it came out subbed and the way she yelled at me totally shocked me. I mean, we all make mistakes!

I saw your post. It wasn't a spoiler. I couldn't tell what your post was about without clicking on the cut.

As for Sol, I definitely wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

Some people become too jumpy on the spoilers even if you write a single word out of cut. But we are humans, we can make mistakes, so all the bashing and defriending for them show the real person's face

It was me who suggested that we part ways because the argument was getting out of hand and if we couldn't handle something this small in a mature way, it would be better to go separate ways.

Well, could I maybe make a tiny suggestion?

The way you format your entries, I've noticed you tend to block them off into sections, like with a digest. Why not make one of those sections everything POSSIBLY spoilery, and then stick it behind an lj-cut? And say "spoilers for SPN/SGA/whatever" on the cut tag. I mean, you can make a link as vague as you want, but because you give away the subject it links to within the text, some people will still consider it a spoiler. I've found that unless all your link says is "This is a spoil, it will spoil you," then you're going to have to cut.

Hopefully that makes sense, I've yet to have coffee.

It's just, I really didn't think that my link was spoilery. I mean, the way Katie Cassidy's character ended in the season finale, Katie could either be back or not, there were two options - it must be the former or the latter, no other option possible - and which way it would go was part of the article, not my link. It would be like saying "Spoilery article about Jensen Ackles and S4".

Thing is, you did spoil them by saying there was new news about Katie for S4. We'd already had the confirmation that she was going to be back, and the second I saw a link that there was new news about her, my heart dropped. Some people consider even mentioning who the spoiler is ABOUT the spoiler. Which is really persnickety but yeah, it's always better to cut then not cut.

It's like you said hon.. various people see various things as spoilers. You can't keep everyone happy no matter how hard you try. I didn't think the title was spoilery but that could be because I already knew Ruby was coming back. And anyway, my friends are more important to me than getting or not getting spoiled. Don't worry too much about it :) *hugs*

Well, I was accused that even saying that it's about Katie Cassidy is spoiling people *sigh* You know, if I was callous about that and didn't care if people see the spoilers or not, I would say that okay, I deserved it. But sheesh! Talk about people being overly sensitive X(

I thought that post you made was very clearly labelled as spoilerific. You mentioned Katie Cassidy outside of the cut, but the actual post could have been about anything, from change of hair colour to being bumped up to series regular and anything in between! The spoiler warning was clear enough that I wouldn't have clicked if I hadn't already seen the spoiler you were referring to.

That was exactly my point. It could have been about anything, it didn't mention anything specific. It was like saying "Jensen Ackles and S4" - considering that he ended up in a similar way like Katie's character... And the LJ user wasn't angry about the article itself but about me even mentioning Katie Cassidy in connection with spoilers! *head/desk*

I mean, I know I'm quite fussy about spoilers - I was spoiled in a general chat thread yesterday, and made everyone who'd been discussing the spoiler openly edit their posts to place their comments behind spoiler-tags so that no one else would stumble across the discussion. And being a mod I had the power to do that. *G*

But there's fussy and there's fussy. Like...I don't like browsing LJ after an episode (that I haven't seen yet) and seeing very specific reaction comments like 'most amazing episode ever' or 'worst episode ever', because they create certain expectations. But that's my issue, and I'd never dream of complaining to anyone to control their squee. I just avoid my flist until I've seen the episode!

And there are only so many lengths you can go to to protect others. Staying spoiler-free can be hard when people are thoughtless, but it really would be taking things too far to not even be able to mention an actor's name in connection to a spoiler! A regular like KC, anyway. If you'd said 'JDM spoiler', that I might take issue with because it's pretty specific and he isn't around often enough for his presence in an episode not to be a big deal. But Katie was a series regular (albeit recurring), so her name really isn't a spoiler!

That was exactly my point. But that LJ user kept repeating how I just obviously didn't get that even mentioning any actor's name with connection to spoilers is a spoiler in itself. We were just going in circles...

I don't have much of a stake in this since I don't like SPN (blasphemy, I know!), but I do read your posts and saw nothing at all spoilery in any of them, at least above the cut.

My take is this... if you don't want to be spoiled in any way shape or form, STAY OFF THE DAMN INTERNET. ;)

I do understand that some people are spoilerphobic, but as another friend of mine said: "There's fussy and there's fussy." The whole thing just left this bad aftertaste in my mouth :( *hugs back*

Being completely objective here.

I don't spend a lot of time on LJ, esp. now. The only times I get to browse are late evenings when I'm back from work, had a chance to unwind, maybe grab a bite (call the bf, deal with RL, etc.)

You better believe it when I say I pay attention to what I read on my flist closely, since I've got limited time to play.

That said, from what I read yesterday, I didn't find it spoilerish in any way. News about a certain character can mean anything. Seriously. I haven't been up to date with a lot of things, and that title meant absolutely nothing to me.

I do not understand the point of all of these. You have your LJ centered on reviews of the various TV series, so you post here the informations which can be sometimes considered as spoilers. BUt you always put warning about it. It is kosher:)

Přiznám se, že tyhle věci jdou mimo mně. Prostě nepochopím proč někdo vříská kvůli spoilerům a to ještě tam kde podle mě žádné nejsou.

Pohybuji se teď hodně v transformeřím fandomu a tam je takových trotlů spousta. Už jsem jich pár poslala ...do ... ano přesně tam a ještě dále.

Chápu tu češtinu no a i kdyby rozumněla ...hech:)
