Did it ever happen to you that you were reading a fic and you thought "great, awesome" and then suddenly, the author introduced a character/plot twist and you suddenly literally screeched to a halt and totally lost interest in the fic?

I remember a fic like that in the Gundam Wing fandom, back then, in the old days ;P In the story, Duo was a banshee and I enjoyed it very much but then the author turned it into a Harry Potter Xover and I just couldn't read another frickin' line of that thing. My little me dislikes Harry Potter with the intensity of seven suns, you see X( *sigh* Oh, well...

Fic recs!
Supernatural - I finally started reading the big bang fics! Go me ;P
GEN --> "weathercock snowfall (starlight cockcrow)" by [livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur. Dean's got three weeks to live, and Sam's acting like a freakin asshole. And hey, it's not like that's never happened before, but this is a little too much like history repeating for Dean's liking. Awesome! Words: 27.000.

Stargate Atlantis:
MCSHEP --> "That Pon Farr Thing" by chelle. John suffers from seizures and only Rodney's touch can make them stop. Yes, I do love to see Sheppard suffer, sue me XP. Words: 10.000+.

Yep. More than once, in fact. The one that stands out most strongly was a post-Serenity Firefly fic that introduced a fascinating and almost-credible plot twist that involved Wash being brought back from the dead, and it set up all kinds of meaty plot twists and development and repurcussions both physical and psychological for everyone...and then suddenly, about four chapters in, abandoned all that intriguing plot work and potential in favour of turning the story into a cheap and slashy knock-off of Buffy season 6. *sigh* I couldn't read any more, it got so awful so fast.

Usually, though, it is bad spelling, grammar or formatting that makes me click away, long before I've read that far!

I quite dislike it when the author changes the direction of their fic right in the middle. It makes me quite miffed that I even invested my time in it X(

Sure, when the character/plot twist is bad. I hate it when things suddenly turn ludicrous and characters start feeling OOC out of nowhere - which is more of a developmental problem with the story than anything.

I hate it when characters are OOC without any explanation or cause. I mean, when - for example - Sam is raped and tortured, he will behave differently after that, that's understandable. But when Sam suddenly feels the urge to wear girly clothes and call Dean "honey"... *head/desk*

Haha, I hate Harry Potter so much, too. Any kind of crossover with THAT would make me hit escape very very fast.

I honestly don't understand what people see in it *shrugs*

Yeah, that happens all the time. It's the reason why I like to be warned of all characters in the fic before I start reading. If there's some long lost sister, I need to know before I invest any interest in the story.

Exactly. I also usually take a peek at how the fic ends because I really don't like death stories. Sure, sometimes, when I need a good cry to get the stress out of my system, why not, but I don't like it when I stumble across something like that unprepared.
