My dear friends, I have two questions, one work-related, one Riptide-related...

1. Work-related: Does the word "pwent" mean anything? Does it describe anything? Does it depict a sound? Anything at all?

2. Riptide-related: How many months did Nick Ryder spend in prison because of Lt. Quinlan? It was said early on, in the first couple of eps of the show, and it happened pre-series. I think that it was three months but I'm not sure now...

Answer to 1: Not to my knowledge, and it doesn't sound like any sound I know. Also, it's not in SOWPODS.

@: 90 days, I believe, is the description given :)

Thank you! And what's SOWPODS?

Ha, thought so! I have another idea for a Riptide ficlet and I didn't want to get that wrong :)

Perhaps it's a reference to this character?

Yup, that's exactly the character I'm working with at the moment. He's a part of the Legend of Drizzt series of books. I'm editing The Legacy at the moment and I needed to know, if it's a "spoken" name, one that needs to be translated :)

The above mentioned character is the only thing that comes up on google when you enter pwent. So I am going to hazard a guess and say that it is a made up "written only" name. I would also hazard another guess and say it's probably pronounced the way it is spelled.

Aha, thank you! I made some mistakes with names in the past so now I'm trying to check and re-check everything twice XP

As, Kwyck said, it's a name - Thibbledorf Pwent. I needed to know, if it's a "spoken" name and if I should somehow translate it or not :)

What's the difference between a "spoken" name and a "written" one. So it'd be pronounced like a little kid saying "print"?

Hm, "spoken" or better yet, "speaking" name is the sort of name that means something, that needs to be translated. Like Native American names for example. Cloud Dancing on Dr. Quinn. It's like having the name Caroline vs. Bloodwings in a book. Caroline obviously won't be translated whereas Bloodwings must be.

Yea, I learned something.
