So, the CW's midseason makeover sucks. After the last original episodes of Supernatural are aired, SPN disappears completely from their schedule and its timeslot will be taken over by Reaper. Yes, they won't air repeat old episodes, they will air Reaper in that place even though the repeats of SPN bring in almost as much viewers as the original airings of Reaper. They are probably trying for more exposure for Reaper, keeping the "original Thursdays" as long as possible (Smallville has still 3 original eps to air after SPN ends for the season and Reaper has, I think, 3 more original eps to go), but I still can't get rid of the feeling that they are forcefully shoehorning the show to be SPN's replacement - I bet that they counted on it, all gung-ho to cancel SPN and replace it with Reaper, and now they can't admit defeat. It still sucks, the programming schedule not Reaper per se, no matter how zen I try to be about it...

ETA: An article with some quotes from the senior executive vp program operations at CBS, who oversees scheduling for both CW and CBS. According to this article, Supernatural "is taking a break from the schedule". So, everybody and their uncle gets repeats and new exposures etc. on this network, only SPN is taken off completely. Which can mean that: a) they know that SPN has a loyal audience already or b) they know that they won't give it a 4th season so why try and gather more viewers? I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that it's the first *sigh*

And continuing the Persuaders marathon, I watched the episode Death in the Family yesterday. Yes, the one where someone is killing off Brett's relatives. It sounds tragic but in reality, it's quite hilarious...

Brett and Danny in the Sinclair family crypt:
Danny: You shouldn't be smoking here!
Brett: It's okay, as long as you are careful with your ashes.
Danny: O.o

Danny: Are all the Sinclairs buried here?
Brett: No, only the dead ones.

Brett pointing towards a ledge in the family crypt:
Brett: This is my space. It was reserved for me the day I was born.
Danny: Well, you certainly have a nice view.

And Roger Moore playing some of his eccentric relatives - including his aunt! XD And then Tony Curtis playing his aunt too! The funniest ep of this series, hands down!

I'm thinking that they realize that Supernatural has a loyal (if sometimes overzealous) fanbase, and we are not going anywhere. It's the only show that can hold it's own against the other networks big Thursday night line-up.

I hope that you are right *crosses fingers* This whole strike might be good for something after all. If they have no pilots or new series for the fall schedule, they have to keep SPN around for another year! *hopeful*

Although, we are talking about Dawn Ostroff here and she and logic don't mix well...

While I`m not crazy about it, I think this is their last chance for Reaper. The audience didn`t take to it, the critics didn`t take to it after the Pilot and it never even got the full Season order like GoGi did.

So they`re probably trying out if the show is salvageable at all and if not, it might not even be back in the fall. Whereas SPN surely will be back because it brings good money to Warner. And Dawn Ostroff won`t get a say in it since if that was the case we`d still be enjoying first run episodes of Veronica Mars pulling in a million rating. :)

And frankly a show that couldn`t hold their own against House? Will sink against Lost and re-runs of CSI. And once their new episodes are through, I wouldn`t be surprised to see SPN on the schedule sooner.

At the latest in their usual summer reruns, starting May/June. Which normally would be a slight disadvantage but with the strike now every show is out of sight for so long, it only matters they are brought back to attention in the weeks before fall Season.

I hope that you're right. I mean, keeping SPN around would be a logical decision, right? But then, we are talking about Dawn Ostroff here and she and logic aren't even in the same room together *rolls eyes*

I don't think that they are canceling it. At least not yet. But I kind of strongly dislike that they pulled it off their schedule completely. This really sucks :(

Hehe, who would have thought that you would like Supernatural so much one day :D

Now why do you say that?

I just always thought that you were more into cop/soldier shows like dueSouth or Tour of Duty than the Ghost-R-Us type of series ;) But I'm probably influenced by the fact that I got to know you through ToD and Fastlane.

This is true. I actually resisted Supernatural until the end of the first season for all I was worth. It was the quality of the show that won me over. So much is done badly in this genre. My first love is actually sci-fi with a hint of supernatural or military... or some strange combination there of.
