Yay, I finished another of my Charmed prompt fics. And it looks like these prompts will turn into a one long story in the end because this one is a sequel to my "Conversation about Death" fic. And it's over 1100 words long! *izsurprised*
You know, sometimes, I think that an author should leave a fic as it is and not attempt to write a sequel. Sometimes, a fic is perfect and needs no continuation.
That's how I feel about the amazing Smallville fic "Somewhere I Have Never Traveled" by Jenn. This fic is perfection pure in my opinion but the series of short sequels... I think it ruins the whole thing. Why?
In Jenn's story the main plotline is that Lex loves Clark so much that he would do anything to get him and keep him. He goes to such lengths to win Clark's love that it makes you love his character even more. But in the sequels, Lex does something that makes absolutely no sense in the light of his love for Clark - I don't want to spoil you if you don't know the fic. He behaves in such an OOC way that it completely ruins your pleasure.
And that's why I decided to try and not even think of the other stories as sequels but as a completely different series. It helps a bit *sigh*
I made some new avatars and then I made icons from said avatars! That's kinda what I look like *points at her icon* XD

Date: 2007-11-26 06:23 am (UTC)On the other hand I *love* Lex as president fics so I adore the sequels more than I actually liked the original story. I think on one hand we're given a very complete, wonderful story about boyhood love that finally gets acknowledge and accepted and while there were adult issues to deal with in the original it was about that crush/love/obsession finally coming to fruitation.
Then we move onto the sequels which *isn't* about that. It's about two people living together, committing and building a life together. And part of that is love changing. Lex is always going to love Clark but his love is going to change as they both age and change as individuals.
So, yeah... your turn. :)

Date: 2007-11-26 08:49 am (UTC)I think it's because I consider cheating something that's simply not done. If you don't like the person you are with, break up. If you like the person than don't cheat. As simple as that :(

I think it was a little bit of panic on his part because he was having problems with Clark (i.e. clark giving up a huge chunk of his life *for* him and just him and Lex being Lex does *not* know how to handle that kind of devotion, he knows how to give it re:obsession but not how to take it). Also while it may have been a mistake on his part (let's face it Lex is human he *will* screw up) it may have also been a slight test, like 'just how far can I push Clark before he will inevitably leave me *again*'. That's not to say I approved of it or anything I'm just saying I can see it happening, 1 in a 1000 chance but it happened and they dealt with it and got stronger because of it.
Also back to the whole cheating equation there, you also have to factor in the idea of cheating is not really about whether you love someone or not. You can still be completely in love with a person and cheat on them. It's factoring the human nature and whims and emotions into it that makes it far to complicated to actually be just that simple.
(Forgive the teal deer, I just finished a logic test and am riding the fumes of... logicticity)
