You know, surfing the del.ico.us bookmarks, I realized that there is a disturbingly large number of Harry Potter mpreg fics out there. I'm sure that it means something, that it says something about the fans but I'm not really sure what *scratched head, amused*
And lets not forget the Stargate: Atlantis mpreg fics... Shep/McKay pairing to that X)
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying that mpreg is bad/wrong/disgusting/ridiculous/etc. I've written some mpreg stories myself. But the sheer amount of mpreg fics in these two fandoms is astounding!
And since we are already talking about Stargate: Atlantis... There must be some fans of SG:A on my flist, right? Can you tell me why you read fanfiction for this series? What makes it so interesting and good? I would really and honestly like to know because I'm obviously missing a lot of fun!
You see, I like SG:A. It's a good series. But I just can't see myself reading fanfiction in this fandom. There are series like that, they are good but I just can't get into the fandom part of the fun. For me, it's for example The Dresden Files, Numb3rs or Heroes. And I do try, I really do. But... *shrugs helplessly*
Oh, and in the SG:A fandom? My pairing would have to include Zelenka. Because Zelenka? He rules! :D

Date: 2007-08-31 11:12 pm (UTC)A vast majority of fandoms I do read in are sci-fi or fantasy (or Supernatural =) and maybe that's because there are more ways to play, or more holes to fill with fic or something like that. I always want to know what then and (eventually) what if.
As for SGA in particular, I love the show because of the banter and dialogue. Also, they can get away with dealing with serious subjects seriously without making it sound blatantly political. Take the Michael thing, which made me actually think about the ramifications of real life experimentation (which led to reading about stem cell research). Also, they have McKay.
The fanfic however, is like a cornucopia of reading. There is an enormous body of absolutely fabulous writing in EVERY flavor, with some of the best writers out there. Seriously. If I had to rec one story to a reader, I would cheat and rec a (gen!) series: Retrograde (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/seriesindex.htm) by
I'm also going to sneak in a rec for the 'story that broke fandom' in the McShep category: Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/freedoms_just_another_word.html) by
Sorry about the rec sneakage. Couldn't resist. Still, if you have no desire to read fic in SGA, no amount of reccing is going to change your mind. But if you're the teeniest bit curious, try those two stories, because honest to God, the writing is sublime and not to be missed.
