Pet peeve

These days, I read everything. Slash or gen, death stories or PWPs, I don't care as long as they are well written. Though there is still this one thing that I can't overcome - Real People Slash, the greatest pet peeve of mine.

For me, it's one thing to slash the characters of a show - TV series/movie/anime/whatever - but it's something completely different to slash living, breathing people who can go online and read about how they did it like bunnies with their co-star *shudders* I know that there are actors who are uncomfortable with their fans slashing their characters (Eric Close to name just one of them). I can't even imagine how they would react to RPS.

When I'm talking about RPS, I have one particular in mind - Jensen Ackles/Jared Padalecki from Supernatural. I can see Padalecki laughing it off but not Ackles. Jensen Ackles comes from a very religious family and as he himself admitted, some members of that family don't like him even doing a show like SPN. I can't even imagine how they would react if they stumbled across a RPS story with him. I think that it would make him at least uncomfortable.

When I'm about to do something that would influence other people, I try to set myself in their position and not do anything that would make me uncomfortable. And I would really hate to read a story where I'm going at it with for example a neighbour of mine. Some people who read these stories actually believe this stuff.

So, for my own peace of mind, I'll continue skipping RPS stories. I'm sorry if I ruffled someone's feathers but that's something that I'm very convinced of.

I'm with you when it comes to RPS. I don't tell other people it's bad and they shouldn't read it, but it's not something I feel comfortable with. Fictional characters don't have feelings. They can't get hurt over what's written about them. Real people do.

I wouldn't read het fic about real celebrities, either. It's not just a slash thing for me.

You know, I feel like it's not appropriate. It's one thing when it's a character, totally unrelated to a real person. A real actor or whatever is something way different. Or maybe I'm just a chicken :P

You're not ruffling anyone's feathers. Or not mine, at least *g* Some things really resonate strongly with us, and that's it for you, is all.

Thank you for the kind words :) Do you even have pet peeves? Well, besides het stories that is :D

Het isn't a pet peeve of mine, it's just something I don't feel like reading, is all *g* I see a pet peeve as something that really grates on your nerves for whatever reason and though I'm not into het, it doesn't annoy or bother me, ya know? And I'm not sure I really have pet peeve, or at least, nothing springs to mind right this minute... will have think about it lol

I totally agree with you. I've never been able to read nevermind write RPS. Then again, I'm not even keen on tabloids, so I'm probably not the greatest example. Seriously, I understand if people want to fantasize about Jensen Ackles, he's beyond hot, but you've got a gazillion characters wearing his face, with personalities one can actually know!

Exactly. There are lotsa characters that Jensen Ackles played that one can write about. I especially loved him as Alec in Dark Angel and now in Supernatural. In Smallville, he was kind of bland - maybe it was because they didn't actually know what to do with his character; or maybe because he played the love interest of Lana :P But Alec and Dean are amazing to play with!

Well. Where should I begine? I was once target of doujinshi featruing me and certain girl from czech manga fandom just because we both were interested in yaoi in those time...well I have spoken with her only five whole sentences :) I was angry not because the yuri nature of the stuff but because they paiered me up with her.Anyway it is fun and I count it as one expression of certain type of art.It is on that adge which make it just ok. I suppose one should be little strong and independent personality to let such things be and on the other hand..you can always write the response and if both sides take it with humor there is nothing wrong with it. I think it can develop even to something pretty good. Speaking about that doujinshi here is the link (http://www.manga.cz/index.php?clanek=92&druh=2) ...mind it is very very old:)

Hehe, you in a DJ? How cool is that :P

In the case of RPS, I just don't feel like it's appropriate because not everybody is okay with such a thing. And I just don't like the fact that they twist their wonderful friendship into something that it's not. I just fear that they will get the feeling that they are encouraging this and stop being so affectionate in public. And that would be a shame :(

I think this DJ is the same as RPS. I agree but the fame mus deal with such things, if you are popular you face the other coin of it and simply ignore that for your own good. However most of them which I read was very badly written so ...there is another type of ofence:)))

I don't read RPS either. I'm just waiting for the day some celebrity goes ballastic over it. I can't say that I would blame them.

Exactly. Even the fanfic writers are really dancing on the edge here since even fanfiction is illegal. RPS could force various companies to go after fanfic writers too :(

I don't know exactly where I stand with RPS. On one hand, I would never slash any two celebrities together but it's a bit easier for me to swallow if they were slashing actors of my OTP (i.e. the Inui and Kaidoh actors of the musical). Because I can easily slip back into the fictional characters and read a story with them in mind. But then again, I'm not comfortable with slashing people from real-life movies (even gay ones where they are portrayed together) when they're not in-character. Ultimately, I think that is why I can/cannot see RPS. If they're in-character, it's okay. If it's real life, then... I'd have a more respect of their personal life. -.-

You know, I really don't like it at all. I the author likes the actor, why can't they write fanfiction. Even that's illegal but at least it doesn't offend as much :(
