[livejournal.com profile] suzvoy posted this link in her LJ - thank you, girl :) It leads to an article that [livejournal.com profile] ezust posted in her LJ. It's about the male bonding and love between heterosexual men on TV today. It's a fascinating reading, really. It concentrates on the Boston Legal TV series, but it fits many other series and relationships: House and Wilson from House, Jim and Blair from The Sentinel, Chris and Vin from The Magnificent Seven, Frazer and Ray (both of them) from Due South... I love TV shows with pronounced male-on-male relationships and they don't even have to be gay. It's much more interesting stuff than female friendships... maybe because I'm a female myself XP

Looking forward to reading it! Don't get me wrong, I love slash (a lot) - but I'm just as intrigued by explorations of friendship, be it between two men or two women. (Not sure why, but male/female friendship hasn't really grabbed me intellectually.) I think the thing that pulled me into Psych this summer was the relationship between the two guys - a friendship going back to childhood. I just love the hilarity and sometimes poignance of their interactions.

I adore slash too but gen fics/books/etc. about men sharing a deep bond are incredibly cool. Male friendship and brothers, that does it for me :)

I love Psych! It's funny but in a way touching too :) But the best example was I think The Sentinel and Jim and Blair. It was so touching and painful to see how much Blair sacrificed over and over again to keep Jim safe. That really got me :)

I've never see The Sentinel, but I was actually thinking about this while watching some episodes Entourage last night. I think the relationship between Ari and Lloyd is really interesting because as abusive as Ari might seem towards Lloyd, Lloyd is really the one person he trusts and counts on more than anyone else.

But yeah, interesting stuff!

You know, I think part of it might be that there's not such a stigma about women being such close, loving friends - so it's not thought of as being so 'unusual'.

I know what you mean. It was so cool to see for example Jim and Blair in The Sentinel (they lived together for pete's sake!) or Ray and Frazer in Due South (the last scene of the series was so cool)...
