Anime: Tokko
Aug. 14th, 2006 11:15 pmI've just finished watching Tokko and I have mixed feelings about this anime. Not because of the violence. And I didn't even mind the animation style much, even though sometimes, it was more than little sketchy. What I did mind though, were the characters and the jumpy plot.
I know that this anime was based on a manga and that it couldn't use everything, every single plot from it. But please, these last couple of eps were simply ridiculous in their illogicality. It seemed as if they had planed 26 eps and not 13 and then they had to put everything in just a few parts. The result is a patchwork of splitters of stories, nothing is fully fleshed out and you get the feeling that you miss half of the plot. When they couldn't adapt the whole manga, couldn't they have just taken a chunk of it and leave it open-ended? That would have been much better than what they patched together.
And now to the characters. Shindou was... I don't know. I felt as if he was living under Saya's thumb, totally henpecked. At first it was funny, then simply annoying how he couldn't stand up for himself. Rokujo behaved like a love-sick puppy instead of a great fighter. Kureha looked like, dressed like and behaved like the worst of sluts, flashing her breasts that never seemed to peek fully from under her jacket (can someone tell me how she glued her jacket to her body like that? O.o). Inukai was... simply there. If they had cut out his character, they might have saved some money. Ryoko acted really cool but was rather short-sighted too (and not because she wore glasses); I mean what she did or better said did NOT do with Muramasa... The only interesting character was, hands down, Shindou's captain.
When I look back now, I see that the first episodes were actually really good and I was looking forward to another ep. The last three episodes, I've watched via ffwd. That should tell you something X( I would give this anime 2,5 stars and probably buy the manga (if I felt like it) to learn what the heck actually SHOULD have happened because the story line was quite interesting no matter what the anime authors made out of it.

Re: Subber question
Date: 2006-08-15 07:54 am (UTC)Lately, they are becoming slower and slower.
Your-Mom subbed the last two episodes - they probably didn't feel like waiting for Shinsen anymore. You can find the last two eps via:
