It all depends on the series, really. For instance, I tend to ignore CLAMP animes, but buy the mangas religiously. I'm sure there are series I ignored as mangas. *thinks* Uh. I have a hard time coming up as one. Sailor Moon would be roughly in this category. *is horribly, horribly picky about artwork*

I'm very picky about the artwork too. It must be beautiful or at least nice to hold my interest. There is only one exception - XXXHolic. The anime is not that well drawn but but oh my gosh, it's excellent. And the seiyuus are incredible. I wouldn't have believed that I could like this anime that much *izsurprised*

sometimes i buy anime but not the manga and sometimes will buy manga but not the anime. :)

there are some exceptions where i buy both (or manga if i'm watching d/l'ed subs).

I'm thinking about buying the manga to Ouran High School Host Club... But if the manga and the anime are too alike... It would feel like money wasted :(

the way i feel about it, if i like the anime enough (especially if i'm getting it free via BT/subs) then i'll spend the $ to support industry to make sure american labels continue to go after japanese manga (or korean manhwa).

Yeah, but I live in the Middle Europe. When a manga costs 10 $, it's another 8 $ postage for me. So I think VERY carefully before I buy anything like that.

For me to buy or download a manga, it has to be different enough that I don't feel like I'm just seeing the same thing over again. Samurai Deeper Kyo is a terrific example of how I like anime to compare to manga. The anime is similar, but it's different enough that I feel like I'm getting twice as much story for the characters.

I think a lot of manga fans feel the opposite way. Many go crazy if even one little thing is changed. I guess I see it differently because I'm way more of an anime than manga fan.

wow, I never thought I would find someone who doesn't hate the Samurai Deeper Kyo anime even though it is different from the manga! I totally agree with you, it's nice to get two different versions with the same likeable characters.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is one of my favorite series. I've watched it twice. The second time, I watched it all in one weekend. It was so much easier to follow, and I got a lot more out of it.

Besides having a great story, it also has one of the best seiyuu casts, ever. ^_~

*lol* I also had a second viewing session on one weekend. Then I watched again with my brother. That's three times already, oh god, I didn't really think about it before. So yes, it's one of my favourites, too.

Yeah, the seiyuu cast is really good. I especially liked Toshihiko Seki's Benitora. Then again I also love how he voiced Watari in YnM, so that's not a real surprise.

Yukimura is fascinating, too. I really like that icon of yours.

Since Seki is my favorite seiyuu, I'll agree with you about Benitora. He was great!

Yukimura is my favorite SDK character. I adore Ogata Megumi's voice. She was perfect to play Yukimura. I don't think I'd like him as much if I only knew him in the manga. She makes him come to life beautifully. ^_^

You are really into shounen manga, huh? I like action driven manga with a lot of UST between the male characters. That's better than a full-blown yaoi manga. The sex is nice but it kinda takes your attention away from the plot or hides the fact that there is no plot whatsoever :(

Do you have any yaoi manga at home at all? *izcurious*

Just Yami no Matsuei and FAKE. I generally prefer watching shows/reading manga where relationships are more hinted at. I don't like having to follow the height rule, and in some yaoi anime and manga, there seems to be dubious consent. I'm not a fan of noncon, which is a big reason why I stopped downloading yaoi drama CDs.

I have some of the manga for Bleach, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Fullmetal Alchemist, Beck, Basilisk, Saiyuki, Evangelion and a little Tsubasa Chronicle. The only one I'm actively reading and collecting is Samurai Deeper Kyo.

You're right, I'm pretty much a shounen fan. ^_^

I honestly don't mind about whether the story is the same in the manga as the anime or not.

If I like an anime I will generally always buy the manga, the reason I said 'sometimes' in the poll answers is because with GetBackers the manga was so different in character design and attitude (although strangely not story) that I hated it!

I didn't like the art in the GetBackers manga either :( The characters looked ridiculous in comparison with the anime.

You know, I would like to see Gorgeous Carat as an anime... Well, they animated the Gakuen Heaven manga by Yuu Higuri so there is still hope there :) I mean, the manga is not that yaoi-sh, right? *izhopeful*

Ooh, that would be great! Who would you have voicing Noir and Florian?

I'm not sure who would voice these two, but I could see Inoue Kazuhiko as Azura. He has the voice of a true seducer *izinbliss*
