Movies on DVD 46/50: Sicario

This movie brought me great satisfaction. Not only because of the cinematography and music, but because of Benicio Del Toro's character. He actually went through with his plan. He didn't let the villain sway him. He kicked ass and murdered his way through to the boss - and then he took his sweet revenge. Was it right or PC or whatever? No. Was it satisfying? HELL YES! And the best scene in the movie? The prisoner transport across the Mexican border. Wow, talk about tense. I haven't been this on the edge of my seat, watching a movie, in forever. Wow.

Movies on DVD 47/50: Skyline

A very, very B kind of a sci-fi movie. The special effects were great but the story was boring and the cast entirely made of TV actors. It's a movie about an alien invasion told from the POV of innocent bystanders, not the military, not those who save the day, but of ordinary people who get caught up in the mess and can only watch while others try to stop the monsters. I'll give it points for an unhappy, open ending, that it did not end on a very patriotic chest-thumping note, but that's it. Eh.
