"The Spy Who Haunted Me (Secret Histories #3)" by Simon R. Green

Rating: ♣ ♣ ♣

This book had a really interesting format, almost like a treasure hunt or a video game. My favorite bit was their adventure in Siberia, in X37. The rest of the jumps was... not bad but mostly used for shock value, I think, for their glitter, infamous reputation and style. X37 was genuinely scary and I loved how it was tied to what happened in Tunguska. Abandoned research facilities scare me more than haunted houses, to be honest.

Regarding the characters, I actually felt sorry for Blue Fairy. I hated him because of what he had done to Eddie in the last book but... I felt sorry for him here. He really didn't deserve this. But I really liked Walker here. I kind of hated him in the Nightside series and he deserved what he got, but this Walker? This Walker I might have grown to like. I missed the Drood family here, though. My favorite parts are always those where Eddie interacts with his clan of nutjobs. Sadly, that was lacking here.

Oh man, I just loved episode 315, The Big Bang Job. It was so incredibly intense. After that, 316, The San Lorenzo Job, was a bit of a letdown. A sweet episode but I think it would've been better if the season had ended with 315. So much suspense in that one episode. I just love funny shows because when they go dark, usually very unexpectedly, it hits you so much harder.

Like in 315, when we found out about Eliot's past, that he used to be Damien Moreau's right hand, his pet killer. I mean, we - the viewers and the team - all knew that Eliot used to "hurt people" as he described it. But to have it laid bare like that... Eliot used to kill people for Moreau and it still haunts him. It was obvious, what he had done for Moreau, when Moreau asked him to kill Atherton as a favor, the way Moreau expected Eliot to do it without questions or hesitation... So very dark, not something I expected, which is awesome! And when Eliot then picked up the gun and killed everybody in the warehouse, in cold blood - and then he asked Nate not to tell the team what he had done. Ouch.

But back to Moreau. The strange thing about Eliot and Moreau's relationship? You could see that Moreau respected the hell out of Eliot. He had no respect for his lackeys - but the way he treated Eliot, like an equal. Even in 316, he was actually amused by seeing Eliot with the puppy. Or at the end of 315, when he told Eliot he loved his longer hair... I just found their relationship so fascinating. Also, it helped that Moreau was played by Goran Visnjic *_*

And the rest of the team! I loved how Parker and Hardison destroyed the bomb. But I also adored that when ass-kicking was needed, it was Eliot and Parker who risked their lives. As the writers said, Eliot and Parker were the most dangerous members of the team. The rest of the team had scruples - Parker and Eliot? Not so much. And that's just awesome.

And yes, Parker/Hardison/Eliot are still my OTP in this show. I know that the writers planned Nate and Sophie to be THE item, then Parker/Hardison but... the way the show's going, I just can't help but feeling that it actually might really end with an OT3 - after the show's finale, that is, not in the show itself, of course. But Parker/Hardison/Eliot give me the same vibes as Audrey/Nathan/Duke in Haven. They just fit. Yes, in the show itself, Parker and Hardison make googly eyes at each other, but at the same time, it's Eliot with whom Parker feels comfortable enough to rest against him, to lay her head on his shoulder... And it's lovely, so very, very lovely!

And yes, I immediately ordered S4 on DVD! Though it won't be here for another month because I had to order it from the US, it's still not out in the UK. Pah! :(

OT3!
