Well, I tagged it as "films on DVD" but I actually didn't watch it on DVD. I do own it, but as I found out today, the DVD doesn't work. So, I watched the file I downloaded some time ago. I hope I get a refund without needing to send it back to the UK, it wouldn't be worth it...

Now, about the movie. Gosh, The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement is totally ridiculous, over the top, nonsensical and whimsical - yet I loved, LOVED all the bits with Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine. Gosh, they had SMOKING chemistry! I loved Mia and Nicholas so much that I actually went searching for fics! Unfortunately, I found only 5 on AO3! HOW?! I mean, I don't read het fics but, gosh, I would gobble these with a spoon! Mia and Nicholas were sweet and funny and hot and... purrfect! It's been some time since I was this smitten with an official het pairing. I want to coo at them like a demented bird *happy sigh*

And besides these two, I liked Andrew best. "Now I just need to tell mummy." LOL. He was so sweet and good and lovely. And I bet he and Mia will make great friends...

Conclusion: A ridiculous movie. Totally saved by Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine and hilarious one-liners like "I look like a moose. I have antlers!" or "Should I shoo him? Or should I shoo him? Just tell me who I should shoo and I'll shoo."

BUT HOW CAN THERE BE ALMOST NO FICS?! Explain this injustice to me!

"Blood on the Water (Vampire Files #6)" by P.N. Elrod

Rating: ♣ ♣ ♣

Better than the previous book. It was interesting to find out that Jack's powers had their limits and what would happen if he crossed them. Also, I like it when the books focus more on the friendship between Jack and Escott, their banter is always hilarious. The ending felt too open, though. Yes, Jack's situation was partially resolved with Kyler's death but it wasn't the end of it. I hoped for a more permanent solution with a shift to new plots in the next book.

Why does this remind me of Rick Castle and his daughter Alexis in Castle?

Walker arrived in Austin with a full brood in tow, including his father and his only child, 14-year-old Meadow. He credited his daughter, who after spending most of her life in Hawaii with her mother recently started living with him full-time, with a new found sense of grounding. “My heart was desperate for so many years with the situation with my daughter. She’s living in Hawaii and she’s there and I’m running here. My daughter lives with me full time now and she’s the best partner I’ve ever had. It’s so nuts. I’ve never had anything like this in my life. I’ve been so transient, I’ve been on my own since I was 16. I didn’t even have my own place until I was 32 years old. I literally lived out of bags for 16-plus years.”

Transitioning from vacation Dad to full-time Dad has inspired a shift in priorities. “There’s a part of me who feels like I’m making up for lost time,” he says. “I was like ‘Okay that’s it, I’m not working, leave me alone.’ Just recently they came at me with an offer of something going in the summertime, and I wanted to punch them in the face for even coming to me with it. ‘You know what my priorities are right now, why are you even tempting me with this?’ I got home and I was just pissed off and my daughter was like ‘What’s the matter?’ And I told her what happened and she mellowed me out and she’s so funny. She sits me down and she’s like ‘When does it go? What months? I like to travel in the summertime anyway.’ So I said ‘We should actually entertain this one?’ and we both sat down and read it. We’re thinking about it.”

Well, that was... rather boring. I found the book boring too, so... It was too long, too confusing, too ridiculous. If they had cut out a good half an hour of it, it would've been much better.

What I liked: Lucius Malfoy. Gosh, what a character! Severus Snape! I'm still unsure about his motivations. Harry, Ron and Hermione! Their friendship is a beautiful thing...

What I didn't like: Dobby! That one gets on my last nerve! It was so in the book and in the movie too. Ginny Weasley! A whiny little girl. Voldemort! What a disappointment. I expected someone scary and got a scorned teenager.

I'm glad that they cut out parts of the book - like Hermione's infatuation with her teacher! - but without some of the bits, the story felt rather... confusing in places.

Ranma, Ranma 1/2

Ranma was hilarious, whether as a boy or as a girl, Ranma rocked. I loved how, at first, he was "OMG, I have BOOBS!" and then he went "Not again with the boobs!" and ended up all "Hey, boobs, cool!" I loved that Akane, Ranma's fiancée, was more of a tomboy than he, that girl!Ranma was actually better at cooking and washing and stuff like that than Akane who was brought up doing these chores, that girl!Ranma enjoyed these things, while Akane could burn water. The episode where Ranma lost his memory and forgot that he was actually a boy and started liking being a girl, totally freaking out Akane, is still my favorite. The boy/girl thing was such a cool idea.
