John & Samantha, Doom

These two are siblings. And not just that, they are fraternal twins. And Samantha is a few minutes older than John so she sees herself as the older sister with distinct protective tendencies towards her younger brother, the fact that he's a Marine kinda doesn't matter. But whoever wrote the script, it seems like they couldn't decide if these two should be siblings or a married couple. Some of the scenes... Well, that's not exactly how any siblings I know behave. Not that I mind. I thought it was amazing that there was a sci-fi movie with a brother and a sister as the main characters, not your usual, run of the mill (ex-)couple.

The chemistry between Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm and Rosamund Pike as Samantha Grimm is amazing. You can feel their characters' resentment for each other - she followed in their dead parents' footsteps and became a scientist, he went his own way and joined the Marines - but they still love each other dearly and they trust each other implicitly - which you can see in the scene where she injects him with the alien virus to save his life, trusting that it won't change him like the others because he's a good person, that his good qualities are the strongest. That scene is amazing. And the one in the elevator at the end... *_*

So yeah, I'm quite fascinated by these two, by their relationship, by the looks they keep giving each other, by their determination to keep each other safe at any cost...

Also, this is the movie that spawned so many Reaper!Bones fics in the ST:Reboot fandom. Just FYI...

Speaking of Karl Urban

I really hope it's a hit. He deserves a hit and a franchise of his own. I mean, he did star in many hits but never as the main character, always as a part of an ensemble. I would love for him to find a hit that would bring him real stardom. So far, most of the movies in which he played the main part were... erm... kinda bad, to be honest.

And will he or won't he be in Red 2? I've seen it mentioned only in one article, months and months back. Since then zilch. That worries me. His banter and bickering and fights with Bruce Willis were the highlights of the first movie for me!
