Sometimes you feel like strangling people!

I "inherited" Sara Douglass' "Wayfarer" trilogy from another translator. Said... woman... translated only the first book, then dropped the series saying that it was boring. And my boss just dumped the other two books in the trilogy on me. Almost 700 pages each. And that... woman... (yes, I'm trying to stay civil here) didn't even put together a dictionary for herself. I now have no idea how she translated all the terms in the book - and there is a LOT of them there! - so I have to take her Czech translation, read it and write all the frickin' terms down by hand and then look them up in the original! Did I mention that it's 700 pages? I'm on page 20 and I already have one whole Word page full of terms because in this series, every frickin' thing has a "spoken" name - something that you can and have to translate because it has some frickin' meaning! *fumes*

This is the third time a thing like that happened to me. I "inherited" Carol Berg's "Rai-Kirath" trilogy, Salvatore's "The Legend of Drizzt" and Steven Brust's "Vlad Taltos" series. And it stopped being funny the first time it happened! Am I the only translator who actually does her job and puts together a dictionary/guide as it should be done? Do those jerks even realize how much work it is to put together a guide after the translated book's published? *seethes*
