Nia Vardalos is simply amazing in this movie. And the fact that she wrote the movie, based on her own experience with the Greek community? Fantastic. And she and John Corbett had amazing chemistry.
And I really loved their characters, Toula and Ian. I loved that Toula wasn't a bombshell, she was pretty but normal, someone you could meet on the street any day. And it was great that Ian recognized her, that he remembered he met her before her "makeover" and he remembered her fondly because she made him laugh. That was beautiful.
I also really liked Toula's relationship with her brother Nick. Yeah, he liked to make fun of Ian but he really, really loved his sister. And he wished her all the best. And Luis Mandylor was rockin' hot in this movie.
Great comedy that's based on stereotypes, yeah, but the fact that the writer actually knew all this firsthand, lived through all this, makes it somehow fun, not mean.
