"Until All the Songs Are Sung" by carmarthen, read by inkjunket | Marcus/Esca | In which Esca seeks out his kin in Hibernia and Marcus goes with him. | 2hr.
Lovely, lovely stuff, this podfic! *happy sigh* I haven't read many Marcus/Esca stories, even though the pairing is really slashy, but this one is simply wonderful.
He pauses, meeting Marcus's eyes. His voice is calm, measured. "I do not say this to excuse it. What Rome did to us does not mean she was not judged by our gods for some of the things she did. But I need you to understand a little of what it is like to be Brigantes. I do not want to lose you here."
And Marcus sees that Esca is afraid, afraid for him. This is what he has been hiding, why he has been brooding and looking over his shoulder these past days. Marcus knew Hibernia would be dangerous when he agreed to follow Esca, but that does not seem to be much of a comfort to Esca right now. His anger dissipates in a rush, spilled water soaking into wet ground as if it had never been.
