Crimson Rivers 2 is as over the top as the first movie, full of action and pseudo-science. Just not as... scary. Oh, don't get me wrong, the black monks? Sheesh on a pogo stick, that was nuts! But the rest? Eh. I mean CR1? With the cloning and the creation of the übermensch and the secluded university in the mountains? That gave me the creeps because it was actually possible! Here? The monastery was scary cool, true, but the mines? The Nazis? The whole story with the treasure? Eh. It just felt thin. Thought what I did like was the friendship between Niemans and Reda. That was cool. And funny. And I just love it when there's a special unit, with this strong character in the lead and his right hand, when they march in and start giving orders and take over and everybody knows them because they are so good and the bad guys actually fear them... It's just this... feeling I get, this shiver of excitement.
So, a good movie, just not as good as CR1. Though Benoit Magimel did a good job as a replacement for Vincent Cassel, he kicked major ass!
