Spoiler Policy Reminder
Feb. 5th, 2013 01:11 pmSomething a friend said in one of my PoI entries reminded me that I haven't talked about my spoilery policy in a long time. The link is listed in my profile, but you'll have to suffer through it again, because I want to cover all my bases.
In 2009, a certain person who isn't a part of my flist anymore, accused me of spoiling her when I mentioned Trip's death in ST:E. I didn't see this as a spoiler considering the show was "old" back then already and out on DVD and in re-runs for years. Still, we parted our ways. And I came up with a spoiler policy that's explicitly mentioned in my LJ profile: link. Said policy lists what I do and do not consider a spoiler:
I have been following these rules for 4 years now and it's something I'm personally comfortable with. If you don't agree and you're afraid of being spoiled, this is your get out of jail free card and we can part on friendly terms. I understand that not everybody will agree with it. Or you can filter out specifics tags of mine related to shows/movies. I'm fairly scrupulous about tagging my entries. Whatever floats you boat and whatever you're personally comfortable with.

Movies:
- Everything unaired is a spoiler.
- Everything aired and not on DVD is a spoiler.
- Movies out on DVD are a free game.
TV series:
- Everything unaired is a spoiler.
- Episode-specific stuff - MOTW etc. - is a spoiler until the next episode airs.
- Major character-specific stuff - deaths, leaving the show etc. - is a spoiler until the season is out on DVD.
- Seasons out on DVD are a free game.
- Old shows out on DVD are a free game.
