Now That I've Seen...

... The whole The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I can say that I love the first movie best. It has the right amount of action, character stuff and humor. And its special effects hold the best - 10 years later, especially RotK looks a bit... iffy, but FotR still looks perfect!
My favorite bit? Moria. Every time I see the Mines of Moria I'm in awe. The halls, the Bridge of Khazad-Dûm... epic, so incredibly epic. IIRC, Legolas and Gimli return to the caves later, don't they? To the Glittering Caves of Aglarond (and Gimli then consents to visit Fangorn Forest, LOL). For me, Moria and Balrog and the rush down the stairs and the emotional fall-out of Gandalf's death are the best thing about the whole trilogy.
Also, FotR has the best music. The beat, the chorus, the main theme... Regarding the other two movies, I adore Annie Lenox's "Into the West". No wonder they won an Oscar for this song. When you listen to it in the context of the story, knowing it's Galadriel's lament, how sad yet hopeful it is... The lyrics are amazing. And knowing the background, by whom the song was inspired ;_; But yeah, the lyrics...
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say: «We have come now to the end»
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping
The song brings tears to my eyes because it marks the end of this amazing piece of cinema, but when I actually follow the lyrics, I literally bawl. And yet, the ending is all the more perfect because of it, with the pictures of each and every character appearing, as if drawn on a parchment... Amazing.
These movies... all shipping aside, it's such a beautiful story of friendship - Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, Legolas and Gimli... Yes, they make me very happy. And it's the same reason why The Hobbit made me so happy. I suspect, I'll be bawling like a newborn at the end of the new trilogy...
