This Means War

Loved it! I really loved This Means War! And I LOL'd like a loon. Honestly, I don't get what people have against the movie. Yeah, the guys were really creepily stalkerish but it's a comedy, it wasn't meant to be a) followed in real life and b) taken seriously. If it was a drama and they tried to present it as okay, I would be pissed but here? Eh. Don't get the uproar. It's a standard rom-com.
I loved Lauren's reactions, the way she freaked out when she saw her ex or when Tuck and FDR met in the restaurant! I LOL'd when she started hyperventilating in the bathroom and when her boobs got sweaty! LOL! And her spastic, always drunk BFF! Or when she realized, "Oh God, I'm YOKO!" That had me LOL'ing so hard!
But what made the movie for me, was the amazing, crackling chemistry between Chris Pine and Tom Hardy!

Wow, just wow! They literally sizzled when they were on-screen together. Their banter was so hilarious and I believed, I really, truly believed their friendship, that they were best friends, closer than brothers. The way they played their parts... amazing! And I really liked the characters, so much! I liked that FDR's Nana considered Tuck her grandson too and that Tuck's son, Joe, called FDR "Uncle Frank'. That was...
Once the movie was over, I went back and re-watched all the scenes they had together, the way FDR kept saving Tuck's life, first on the roof, then in the bar, then in the car and how FDR always kept a spare magazine on him because he knew that Tuck never carried one. Or when Tuck told FDR that he didn't give a damn about who Lauren would choose, he was just sorry that they lost their friendship along the way. Or when FDR realized that Heinrich was following Tuck.
If you haven't seen the movie on DVD yet, do. Borrow it from someone, if you have to, but watch it on DVD. Because there are 3 alternate endings there:
-- In the movie, Heinrich kidnaps Lauren and Trish, right? In one of the alternate endings, Heinrich kidnaps Lauren, FDR and Tuck and he forces one of them to shoot the other, to make them feel what it's like to lose a best friend. I liked that one much, much better!
-- The other two alternate endings are about Lauren's choice. In the movie, she chooses FDR. In one of the endings, she chooses Tuck. And in the other? TUCK CHOOSES FDR! I LOL'd so much! There they are, lying on the ground on the highway, Lauren on the one side of the road and FDR and Tuck on the other, in each other's arms, FDR hugging Tuck tight! That was so, so awesome! Honestly, on the DVD, you get whatever ending you wished for, they filmed them all :))
On a very shallow note, Tom Hardy looked amazing in this movie. He was so incredibly gorgeous. And he looked so very, very young. You wouldn't believe it's the same guy who played Forrest Bondurant just a couple of years later. It's like two completely different people!

Date: 2012-10-19 10:06 pm (UTC)Yeah... I saw this opening night at the theaters. People seemed to enjoy it and were laughing... I don't know what was up people's asses except that it wasn't a great movie.. it was predictable - true but it was fun as hell. I LOVED the paintball scene!!!
I think my only issue was I thought the lighting kinda sucked. Not just Tom but everyone looked .. yellowish red to me through much of the movie or just off. *shrugs*
I think my favorite part was the chemistry between the guys.. and both are such handsome sexy things aren't they XD

The guys were amazing. I loved that they didn't mind saying 'I love you' or 'You're my best friend' openly. They weren't ashamed of their deep feelings for each other. In movies like that, men are usually emotionally constipated but not here. So much chemistry!
