3x with JGL: Inception

How could I do this "3x with JGL" thing and not watch Inception? I think that Inception and not the Batman trilogy is Chris Nolan's real masterpiece. Why? Because it's a) original and b) an ensemble film. A real ensemble movie where everybody has stuff to do that's important for the success of the mission, nobody's just standing around looking pretty.
Much has been said about the movie, so I'll just mention a few things that I've noticed this time around...

Arthur is really pretty and so incredibly young. JGL looked like the youngest member of the cast. Arthur's dream level was my favorite. The rolling corridor, the kick in the elevator, the zero gravity, tying them all together and dragging them down the corridor... SWEET! Also, when he fought the security guys in the corridor, he looked like a giant spider, running up and down the walls, clinging to them!

Eames is really pretty too. Sorry about the quality of the second pic but the focus was never on him in the scene, the camera followed Cobb around, but I needed to post this because he looked so incredibly sexy in his dark purple shirt and black suit, slouched in such a sexy way. Yeah, Eames usually dresses horribly but in that scene? Mwah! \o/ Also, his level was my second favorite, the way he dealt with the security, how he fought them in the snow!
So, the first level was Yusuf's, the second was Arthur's, the third was Eames' and Limbo was Dom's right? That's why the deepest level didn't collapse when Ariadne left. Also, I think the whole thing might have been a dream after all, starting with Yusuf's den in Mombasa. Did you notice that Dom didn't manage to check his totem back then? That he dropped it when Saito called out to him? Or Cobb might have stayed in Limbo together with Saito. Or maybe they did wake up? Food for thought...
I'm now seeing the Arthur/Eames vibes much clearer. Sure, they only had a few lines together, but... Arthur knew that Eames was in Mombasa - yet he didn't know about Yusuf's den. In the taxi, after the shoot-out, he checked with Eames first. When Arthur was playing Yusuf's guinea pig, with Yusuf trying out the kicks on him, Eames was always there, giggling. The "darling" bit. The "Go to sleep, Mr. Eames" bit. The "stick in the mud" bit... Yup, I see it!
Now I would really want to read a fic or two about Arthur dealing with his failure to discover the militarization of Fischer's mind. Or a fic with Arthur and Eames training together in RL, sparring or something. Hm...
Oh, the actor who played Nash? Lucas Haas? He was in Brick with JGL together, playing The Pin.

It's just lovely fodder for fandom. Sorry this is rambly. There is a reason I am not a writer. LOL
Have you read Lacy McBain's Origins? Arthur and Eames meet in the military. It's really good. http://archiveofourown.org/series/7965

Date: 2012-09-24 11:37 am (UTC)In my head canon, Arthur and Eames had a falling out, Eames left but Arthur kept tabs on Eames which is Arthur's repressed version of "caring" - whereas Eames is much more open with his feelings. Maybe Eames said or did something nice and Arthur commented on it, trying to respond in a similar way, but it came out wrong and it lead to a misundertanding and now Eames takes everything Arthur says as mocking when it's just Arthur trying to be open and failing.
Nope, I haven't read Lacy's stories but I have them bookmarked for reading. This and the other fic, in which Arthur gets drugged and calls Eames to pick him up. But where to take the tiiiiiiiiiiiime? *wails*

I know what you mean about time... The story you are talking about "Laying Claim" is the podfic I am recording now! It's one of my favorites! Sadly, my office is going through being acquired by a larger company and my life is a bit ... stressed and hectic. Having a hard time finding time to finish it but it will get done.
I have a copy of the Inception script if you want it. There are several changes. Scenes that were cut - one of Eames and Cobb that was brilliant and would have loved to seen. And Eames was the one that was suppose to slap Arthur - not Yusuf! Cool stuff like that. I could upload it on mediafire for you if you like. Let me know.

I admit that my preferred scenario is Eames kind and understanding and loving, Arthur all emotionally stunted.

I think Eames is kind and understanding, if a bit of a cad because I love how he barely treats Cobb with any respect at all but I think Arthur has hurt him. Because he comes off (to me) as angry that almost hurt angry where I want to hurt you back.
And Arthur takes it... like he knows he has to atone on some level but yes emotionally stunted but hopefully growing as we see him worry about Eames on the 1st level and kinda lose his shit yelling to see if he is ok.
Yes yes.. podfic but it's long so it could be at least another month before I finish recording and editing. It's a long process. But one I love doing. ^_^

On the first level, in the cab, they were clicking so perfectly, almost no words were needed. You have to wonder where they learned what they know: Arthur in the corridor, Eames in the snow... That's not two guys who picked up guns yesterday.

Date: 2012-09-24 06:08 pm (UTC)Eames is so interesting to me because NO WHERE other than in building dreams does Arthur come off as more than someone who does research and kick ass. Where Eames damn near comes up with all the ideas for inception and the reasons they will or won't work. He almost sounds like a bloody professor when he and Cobb are talking in the cafe... the character has so many layers.
So, they probably did work together if they stole dreamshare from the military... I can see a big falling out being Arthur following Cobb. Maybe it broke up their team/relationship. And Arthur sometimes looks like he hates Cobb so it makes you wonder if he is doing it for Mal or for her children because Cobb treats Arthur like crap.
Arrgh.. boss is here.. which is good, I could ramble about Inception for a long time. ♥
