There's a short article on SciFiNow in which Colin Morgan talks about Merlin's magic and the way magic in general will be portrayed in Merlin's S5: link.
“We left Merlin at the end of the last season tipping over into a darker side, and I think that’s a reference for me for the rest of this season. I think he is so confident in himself now, and in who he is and what he is destined to do. He has a resilience and power that drives him for this season. He gives as good as he gets.”
Interesting. I definitely want to see Merlin kick major ass!
You know what would be make the waiting for Merlin's magic reveal worthwhile? If Arthur banished Merlin from Camelot and Merlin became the leader of the druids and the mightiest wizard of all so the next time he and Arthur met, it would be on equal terms, both as leaders of their people, not as a servant and his master. THAT would make it worthwhile for me!
