Looks like Blood&Chrome will be worth checking out:

Clint over at Moviehole was fortunate enough to get an early read of the script for the two-hour pilot of Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, and came away feeling, in his words, that "It’s Frakkin’ Excellent."

According to Clint, the work is inspired by Orci and Kurtzman’s Star Trek reboot script (the creature on the ice planet would seem to be a dead giveaway here, wouldn't it?), as well as Top Gun, with a young and somewhat conceited rookie pilot named William Adama graduating at the top of his academy class, but nonetheless having a hard time convincing his colleagues that he's ready to lead them into battle against the Cylons.

The pilot, of course, starts off with young Adama completing his final graduate piece at the Academy. Once we’re convinced he’s ‘the man’ it’s onto well… you know where.

It definitely sounds as though action and adventure will be a huge component of this series, with plenty of space dogfights and visits to alien worlds. We'll be interested to learn what the budget is, given that all of this will require some extensive CG work. However, given that most of it is said to be shooting on virtual sets, building costs may be minimized (scans were taken of all the original Battlestar Galactica sets before that show ended, in anticipation of another series).
