Smallville 101-104
Jun. 18th, 2010 11:48 pmYou know, it's so funny to see the show from the beginning, to see their "teenage angst" and all. Clark is so unsure of himself - and watching S9, you can really see what a progress Tom Welling made as an actor - Lana is the fluffy pink princess and Lex? Lex is cool!
101 Pilot: Hehe, so cheesy, seriously. Who would've thought back then that the show would last 10 seasons? It's true that the introduction of the necklace was a nifty way to turn Clark into a bumbling idiot around Lana - though considering that kryptonite causes cancer, she would have had to die of it before she even entered high school! Oh, and funny thing that the execs mentioned in their audio commentary: Michael Rosenbaum's claustrophobic and the underwater car scene was hell for him!
102 Metamorphosis: The whole bug thing? SPN did it much better with Bugs (I actually really liked the SPN ep!). Best part of the episode? The scenes with Clark and Lex, especially the one where he told Clark that if Clark hadn't pulled Whitney out of the car, his problems would have been solved - what a great darkish hints there. Also, the scene with Lex and Lana was hilarious, when she told him that she had once caught him skinny dipping :P
103 Hothead: Ah, first real "Clark in trouble" ep! Saved by Jonathan this time. The scene in the Beanery was hilarious, when Lana brought Clark and Lex something completely different than what they had ordered. She should really stick with cheerleading. But man, Lionel was creepy, when he reached out to touch Lex and Lex flinched away - wow, I can see why so many fanfic authors think that Lex was abused as a child. Oh, and when Lex told Lionel that Lionel had no idea what Lex was capable of - chilly!
104 X-Ray: Jonathan pissed me off like nobody's business in this ep. Lex had an alibi but to Jonathan, it didn't matter. What a jerk. I really don't get why the writers/execs thought that their Jonathan was the embodiment of virtue, hm! Loved the scenes with Lex and Nixon, the way Lex basically ruined Nixon's life with one phone call. Lex is so cool in his ruthlessness. And the smashed car made its first appearance! Lex, Lex, Lex, if you knew what you started there...

Date: 2010-06-19 12:19 am (UTC)But the very first episode, it completely blew me away! I was captivated - the writing, the attention to detail, the friendships (Pete!), the humour, Lex/Clark moments... The show really outdid my expectations.

Date: 2010-06-19 07:15 am (UTC)I wasn't all that excited about the first ep. But I loved the potential the show had. But looking back at it now, being 31 and all, their teenage angst is kinda silly to me. I just can't connect with that anymore. But Lex, his devious ways, that's still awesome.
You know, the only pilot that ever blew me away literally, was the pilot of White Collar. I watched that one four times in one day. Not even Supernatural - and I worship that show - managed that!
