Ursula Poznanski's "Erebos", #48
May. 19th, 2010 05:46 pmYou know, this book reminded me a lot of Matrix. Or The Ring. Seriously. A computer game that nobody's allowed to talk about makes high school students behave in a really weird way. Nick, who at first doesn't get it at all, falls hard and fast for the game and doesn't even realize how far he has fallen, until the game orders him to kill his own professor.
I reviewed this book for my boss and I have to say that I couldn't put it down. I was so interested in finding out what's behind the game, what's the big plan, the main goal. It's easy to read, very accessible. But I did like the "real world" dealings better than the "game scenes" which was the only thing that irked me a bit. Also, Nick was a real teenager - meaning, he was not always likable; something terrible needed to happen to tear him out of his obsession.
