Day 18: Favorite side character

Dr. Radek Zelenka, of course! Well, I'm Czech too, so that makes me a bit biased, I think. But he was awesome in his own right. I loved the way he and Rodney bickered, that he would not take any crap from Rodney. He was almost as smart as Rodney and he would never let him forget it. Also, you would have to speak Czech to know just what he was saying when he was cursing. It was LOL'tastic!

Day 17: Favorite team (Ford or Ronon? Weir or Carter?)

Favorite team? John, Rodney, Teyla and Ronon. I never liked Ford. IMHO, he wasn't very well-defined character. John, Rodney and Teyla completely overshadowed him. Ronon, on the other hand, was amazing from the get-go, the writers obviously learned.

Leader? Weir, Woolsey, Carter, in that sequence. Carter just didn't fit, IMHO. She was an awesome SG-1 character, but the Atlantis expedition was a bit... different than the SGC, they did things differently there. In Atlantis, it was less about the military, the boundaries between soldiers and scientists were pretty much nonexistent.

Doctor? Beckett. Let's not even think about Keller.

Day 16: Favorite season

I would say season... 3. It had so many awesome episodes: Sateda, Common Ground, Echoes, The Game, The Ark, Submersion, First Strike.... And only two really bad ones: Irresistible and Irresponsible.

Day 15: Least favorite pairing

Seriously, guess!

...

...

...

Exactly. I think I've written enough about how much and why I hate Rodney/Jennifer.

Day 14: Favorite pairing

I would say Ronon/Jennifer. I didn't really like Jennifer Keller much - okay, not at all - but she fit together with Ronon. Because, let's face it, she was written as a weak woman in need of protection. And fine, why not? There are women like that out there, after all, women who do need a strong man to prop them up. I am all for portraying all kinds of women on shows and that would've been a nice opposite to Teyla, who was a very strong, decisive woman. And Ronon felt a strong need to protect Jennifer because she reminded him of his wife Melena. They would've made a really great pairing and their development could've been a thing of beauty. And as much as I hate shipping on shows, if they HAD to pair up anybody, I would've preferred if they went with Ronon and Jennifer, the way they started it before they switched over to Rodney/Jennifer, a pairing that made no sense at all...

Day 13: A scene that made you blush

Well, nothing really. The closest this show came to making me blush was when Cadman in Rodney's body tried to seduce Beckett. What I did find really sexy was Larrin and Sheppard. Man, the looks she was giving him, smoking hot... *_*

Day 12: A scene that had you yelling at the screen

The one where Rodney told Jennifer he loved her, in The Shrine. Totally out of the blue, that one. They had one drink together a season back and suddenly, he was in love with her. Oh yes, and let's not forget how it went down: "Jennifer, I love you. ... ... ... Where is JOHN? I want JOHN!" Seriously. Out of his mind with sickness and having the woman he loved right in front of him, he couldn't stop yelling for John. Riiiiiiiiight...

Day 11: Your favorite SG-1 guest star

Chris Judge AKA Teal'c in Midway. He was awesome! I loved the scenes that Teal'c and Ronon had together, they were hilarious. And it was so cool that a big part of the story in Midway was carried by them.

Second favorite: Robert Picardo AKA Richard Woolsey. I liked him much better than Carter as the leader of Atlantis. His quirky self fit much better with the bunch of nutsos that was the Atlantis expedition.

Day 10: Your favorite female character (who isn't your fave char)

Teyla Emmagan. She's gorgeous and strong and she kicks ass like nobody else on Atlantis. Surrounded by computers and technology, she's willing to learn how to use them. She's the diplomat and the conscience of her team - but she's willing to dirty her own hands when necessary. And then there's her eye-roll o' doom XP

But I think that the writers shouldn't have made Rachel Luttrell's pregnancy a part of Teyla's story line, at least not the way they did. They should've either done it right or not at all. Instead of using the baby - erm, that sounds wrong ;P - as a tool to explore Teyla's culture, they magicked in Kanaan and saddled him with the baby only to rarely pull either of them out of some deep, dark closet on Atlantis. That's a bad writing right there...

Day 9: Your favorite male character (who isn't your fave char)

Rodney McKay. I love Rodney because of his acerbic sense of humor. He's the character that I miss in many shows, the one that calls various stupid guest stars on their bullshit, telling them "Of COURSE it's your fault, you idiot!" That's why I was so sad and horrified when the writers totally emasculated him after he fell in love with Keller - suddenly, it was "Yes, Jennifer" and "No, Jennifer" and "You're right, Jennifer!" WTF?! I'm all for character development, not mutilation! *sigh*

And when did I fall in love with Rodney? After seeing this exchange:

McKAY: Even with the six symbols Lieutenant Ford provided there are still hundreds of permutations ...
SHEPPARD: Seven hundred and twenty.
McKAY: Yes. I knew that of course. I'm just surprised you did.

That moment was priceless, Rodney stunned speechless by the encounter of an intelligent specimen of the military species :P I was sold!

Day 8: An episode you've watched more than three times

Considering that SGA is one of my most favorite shows ever, you can say that I watched almost all the eps more than once - the hated ones excluded, of course. So, I will just name one ep per season:

Season 1, The Brotherhood: There's Kolya and his obsession with John, there's exploration, there's banter... And let's not forget this is the episode where Rodney finds out that John passed the MENSA test!

Season 2, Inferno: Fantastic episode. Exploration, suspense, action, amazing special effects - and the banter, the banter!!!

Season 3, Common Ground: This episode is Shep!whump pure. John's tortured while the others have to watch, he meets Todd the Wraith and there's Kolya again! Awesome!

Season 4, Adrift: Love it because it feels more like a mini-movie. Another thing I love is that with Elizabeth hurt, it's John and Rodney as Atlantis' leaders - and they WORK TOGETHER! There's no military vs. civilians stand-off, they are one big family and in this together which is simply rockin' awesome.

Season 5, Search and Rescue: This whole episode is teamness pure. And it's not the grand gestures but the subtle things, like when Ronon pokes Rodney to make him ask John if John's alright or when John finds out Rodney is alive or Teyla's absolute conviction that John will rescue her or when Rodney and Sam work side by side to repair the ship... This is what SGA should be!

Day 7: A scene you had to pause during to remind yourself it's not real

Hm, you mean a scene that totally blew me away? Then the amazing space battle in Be All My Sins Remember'd: the Atlanteans, the Travellers and the Wraith against the Replicators. Wow. Talk about WOW!

Day 6: A scene that had you laughing so hard you had to pause

Well, pretty much every scene that John and Rodney had together. Their bickering was priceless and what I loved was that John was intelligent enough to keep up with Rodney's ramblings which frustrated Rodney to no end - a smart military man, imagine that!

McKAY: We’re gonna stick to chess from now on.
SHEPPARD (making a move on the board): As long as Rodney doesn’t cheat.
McKAY: Oh, please, like I need to cheat playing you?
WEIR: OK, I’ll leave you to it, then.
(She walks away. Rodney makes a move on the board.)
McKAY: Ha!
(John makes a move and takes one of Rodney’s pieces.)
SHEPPARD: Ha. Checkmate.
McKAY: What?!
(He looks at the board. John shrugs.)
McKAY: Oh, no-no-no-no-no. What happened there?
SHEPPARD: What happened there is I just kicked your ass.
McKAY: No, no, I was distracted. She was, uh ... OK, we’re going again. Best of ten.

And another one, this one with John, Rodney, Ronon and Teyla... )

Both scenes from The Game - man, they really enjoyed pulling Rodney's leg!

I'll do one better - my favorite Sheppard/McKay vid: Men of Devotion. This vid is so... them! I LOL every time I watch it :P

Day 4: A character you wish Kolya would kill

Easy: Jennifer Keller. There was no other character that I loathed as much as her on SGA. Seriously, her character - inexperienced, insecure and timid - had no place on Atlantis, an alien outpost in what was basically a war zone. And the way she was written, no consistency at all: in one ep, she was able to kill a Wraith single-handedly, in the next one, she couldn't defend herself at all and just stood there, wringing her hands. But that's not all...

Honestly, I disliked her for two reasons:

a) There was absolutely no reason why the writers had to kill Beckett and replace him with a blond bombshell that serve as nothing more than damsel in distress, there to be rescued by manly heroes. The writers simply wanted Jewel Staite on the show and they sacrificed Beckett for it with some stupid excuse that viewers needed to feel the danger or something like that and that's why he was killed. No, just no. Instead of giving him an interesting story line, they replaced him with a love interest for half of the main team AND the only lesbian on the outpost. Seriously.

b) The McKay/Keller relationship. Setting aside the fact that he was 15 years her senior and they had absolutely nothing in common - he talked about physics or comic book characters, she was all about George Clooney and Brad Pitt (Trio) - all she did was try and change him from the get-go. What DID she like about him when she couldn't but chastise Rodney for who he was on regular basis?

So, yeah. I think that the series started to go downhill when they introduced Doctor Keller. The writers were so in love with Jewel Staite that they stopped using their upstairs brain.

Day 3: An episode you hate

Gold: Brainstorm. Uh, where to even begin? It's a high school outcast's dream come true: the geek saves the Homecoming Queen and she falls madly in love with him. What a pile of crap. All Jennifer did was chastise and belittle Rodney and complain: don't do this, do that, don't make a face like that, keep quiet, pay attention to me, don't embarrass me, don't be so selfish... And Rodney's, RODNEY frickin' MCKAY's response? Yes, Jennifer, you're right, Jennifer, I'll do better Jennifer. What. The. FUCK?! When did McKay start thinking with his genitalia?

Silver: Identity. Yet another "Jennifer Gets Kidnapped!!111!1!" episode - seriously, she was a prime example of the so called "damsel in distress" specimen. A few eps back, she kicked some Wraith ass using only dry branches for banto sticks - and in this ep? All she did was stand there and whimper in fear. For cryin' out loud!

Bronze: Inquisition. A clip show. A pointless clip show and another episode wasted in the series' very last season. Good job, writers, really awesome.

All these episodes took place during S5.5. Out of the 10 eps, three were totally unwatchable. WTF?!

Day 2: Your favorite episode

Gold: Echoes. What a funny episode. There was humor. There was action. We saw what the characters did off duty, at least in this ep: Teyla meditated, Ronon slept meditated too and John and Rodney were whale watching. The planet and the galaxy were explored. There was team love. And did I mention just how funny that ep was?

Silver: The Prodigal. A rare gem of S5.5 that was otherwise mostly boring to annoying. TP was simply awesome. John and Rodney got to be the geeks AND the heroes. Teyla kicked major ass. Ronon and Woolsey had a few scenes together. The Michael story line was concluded. It was one action-packed, kick-ass episode that I hadn't thought the writers were capable of writing anymore.

Bronze: Midway. Yes, Teyla was barely in it (not the writers' fault, for once), but other than that, the episode rocked my socks. Ronon and Teal'c were amazing! John and Rodney saved the collective ass of some pretty dumb scientists and most importantly, that easy peasy way home was destroyed, courtesy of Kavanagh.

There were many other awesome episodes, like The Arc, Inferno, Outcast, Adrift, Be All My Sins Remember'd..., but those three came to my mind immediately.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken:

Day 1: Your favorite character

John Sheppard, hands down. Why? It's... JOHN SHEPPARD! He's Mensa level smart and funny and his subordinates just love him and he would die for any one of his people and he's so emotionally stunted he can't tell anybody he likes them and... and... and... he's the geekiest military commander you'll ever find and... ::hands:: He's just so awesome! My favorite character in the whole Stargate franchise!

“I’m sorry to say but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the SGA movie had made in the past month, shelving it indefinitely,” [Joe Mallozzi] said. “... Contrary to what some may think, the cancellation of SGU is very bad news for those looking forward to an Atlantis movie.” Link

Seriously, I LOL'd. I mean, reading his words, you get the feeling as if the SGA movie was about to go into production. The movie was shelved as it was, nothing changed with the cancellation of SGU. And I think that most SGA fans made their peace with that.

Also, honestly? I don't even care if the movie is filmed or not anymore. Especially now that we have "SGA: Legacy", the book series by Jo Graham and Co. As long as there's SOME Stargate out there, in a book format or whatever, I'm content. And since I love tie-ins...

And it's actually funny to see the different reactions of various TPTB. BSG's? Caprica got canned, they came up with Blood&Chrome. SG's? SGU got canned, TPTB is huffing and stomping their feet and refusing to move on to keep the franchise alive ::shakes head:: Honestly, some people are just unable to overcome their own ego...
katikat: (st-ship)
... that SGU will be picked up for S3. Averaging 1.1 mil. and 0.4 demo. That's franchise low average. Twice this season, the show dipped below 1 mil. viewers, another franchise low. It's keeping steady around 1.05 mil. viewers. And SyFy wants to give it another season. As it was said by the person maintaining SyFy's forum. I don't even...

That made the cancellation of SGA smart again. And hard. When SGA was canceled, it was on the upswing in ratings. In its latest season, it averaged 500k viewers more than SGU, hitting 2 mil. viewers. And it was canceled. Brad Wright said it wasn't profitable. Joe Mallozzi said that the ratings weren't good enough to keep it on air. And now another SG show that averages 30% less ratings wise will get another season.

For Joe Mallozzi and Mark Savela, it's a done deal. They talk about S3 with confidence, they already have plans, they know what the next season will about. Even though SGA wasn't given even one movie to finish its story. SGU, that hasn't been able to match SGA's ratings since S1.5, will be given a whole new season.

I don't... It's... When SGA was canceled, the show was - together with SPN - my favorite series on air. And this, it makes it obvious that SGA was doomed no matter what, that TPTB simply wanted to drop it, get rid of it as soon as possible regardless of its viewers and fan support, to play with a new toy. The show received a People's Choice Award in the same year it was canceled...

Honestly, I'm... numb. I'm past anger or rage, disappointment or even shock. I'm simply... numb. They had a successful show and they dropped it for something that barely anyone watches, the show's ratings being well below the cable's primetime average. I'm... *shakes head*
