White Collar 114
Mar. 10th, 2010 10:21 amWow, that was... amazing, fantastic, great, just about PERFECT!!!
Stream of thoughts:
I actually really liked Alex in this ep. She knew that Neal would con her and take the box, so she took it first. She knows Neal real well. But I loved that she brought it back. And I loved her reasons: She didn't want it to be over between her and Neal - and it would this time if she took the box and caused him to lose Kate in the process! - but she also didn't want to have the baddies on her heels. Sentimental and practical at once.
Kate. Either she died or she didn't. I actually like both scenarios. If she died, then she was the "good guy" and she really did love Neal and wanted them to start over with a clean slate. That would be actually pretty cool and I would love it because it would justify Neal's love for her. On the other hand, if she just wanted to lure Neal into the plane to kill him, that would be pretty awesome too!
June as usually rocked. She made sure to warn Neal that Peter was on his way! And when she hugged Neal and told him that he was one in a million and he should never forget that... Aww!
I loved, loved the embassy heist. Neal announcing that he was a thief because he knew that they would take him inside. So cool! And he scaled down the embassy building. Ha! Though I would have preferred if he wore gloves. On the other hand, he didn't have to because he knew that they wouldn't go after him.
Loved Neal diving into the pool "naked" and then sculpting the statue. That was so cool. I would love to see more scenes where Neal would work on various artworks. He's an amazingly gifted artist, he really is. And I loved that he hid his tools inside the statue!
Cruz was only in one scene? She leaves with a whimper instead of a bang. And I don't really mind because Diana rocked my socks like nobody's business. What an amazingly well written female character! She's gorgeous, lesbian and kicking ass! More of this, dear writers, more!
Jones. He's so cool! I loved it that he stood up against Fowler. Peter really does know how to win the trust and loyalty of his people!
The very first scene! Neal solved the case and demonstrated it with coffee - so that he could take a sip of Hughes' latte! Ha, sneaky bastard.
Elizabeth was awesome. Yes, she was upset, but I loved it that she wasn't angry at Peter or Neal for causing the situation, but at Fowler. That rocked! When she told Neal that there was a difference between loving someone and loving the idea of someone... Wow. I hope that those two get more scenes together in S2.
Mozzie was awesome! I loved it that he wanted glowing references from Neal as the owner of The Greatest Cake! And when he almost hugged Neal... The way he raised his hand and just stroke the air above Neal's arm... That was so incredibly touching!
You know, I don't think that Fowler is really a bad guy. I think that someone's actually blackmailing him. That would be so cool if someone was using some weakness of his against him the way he used Neal's and Peter's weaknesses against them!
And Neal and Peter. I love the way they love each other - take it as slashy or platonic or whatever. They like each other so much that it actually hurts to watch them together when they are hurting. I loved that Peter suspected something so he stalked Neal, that he figured out that Neal would steal the music box. That he came to him and asked him not to do it. That he finally understood why Neal was doing what he was doing, now that Fowler went after Elizabeth. And Neal - his hurt look when Peter confronted him the first time, his distress when he realized that Fowler went after El and Peter! I loved it that he showed Peter that the anklet was off and told him what he planned to do. And when Peter saw the music box in Fowler's car and he KNEW that Neal would disappear and this time legally so Peter would have no leverage to hold him back...
The airport scene just about broke my heart. Neal was so happy when he saw Kate. And then Peter came and complicated the whole situation! Ha! I loved it that Peter kept asking Neal why he said good-bye to everybody but him. And he kept nagging and nagging until Neal told him. And Neal actually cried! I wonder if Neal would have told Peter that he was staying the last time he turned around. But you know what? I prefer not knowing, kinda. And when the plane blew up, Peter immediately started running towards Neal to grab him because he knew that Neal would do something stupid. Wah! The perfect ending!
Oh my, that was longer than most of my fics! XP But what a perfect way to end a season. That was so incredibly, incredibly cool! *bounces* Need to watch it again, like right now!
ETA: You know what I also loved? The music! Wow, the cues were amazing!

Date: 2010-03-10 10:22 am (UTC)I hadn't thought that Fowler might not actually be the bad guy until others started talking about it. But you're right it's entirely possible he's being blackmailed into this and is just as much a pawn in the bigger game as Neal and Kate were.
That last scene... I loved it so much. The love between them is amazing (though I'm still thinking of it in a platonic way). Loved Peter nagging until Neal admitted the truth and Neal turning back that last time. I agree we don't need to know exactly what Neal was going to do in the end. The point was to show how impossibly hard it was for him to walk away knowing how much Peter and everyone else cared. That as much as he says he doesn't want a different life it's not entirely true.

Date: 2010-03-10 04:36 pm (UTC)You have said EVERYTHING that I thought. It was AMAZING and FANTASTIC and WOW.
RE: the plane. I have a theory that Kate wasn't actually on the plane, that she escaped while Neal was talking to Peter... we never saw her after that last glimpse. And whether she rigged it because she saw Neal wasn't going to come with her or she rigged it to kill him, I'm not sure.
I absolutely loved the trust Peter and Neal had in this episode. And the trust Elizabeth had in her boys to fix it. And YES more Neal and Elizabeth interactions are a must for S2!

Date: 2010-03-10 08:51 pm (UTC)I loved their expressions, Peter and Neal's, at the airport. Wow. They can say so much just with their faces.
