I've rewatched the part where Peter realized that Neal was the ransom like a dozen times already. Love it! We need more "Peter's freaking out because of Neal" scenes!
I think that Peter and Neal like each other too much already for something to really damage their friendship beyond repair. I mean, Peter doesn't like what Neal's about to do but he does understand his motives - and that's maybe even worse because he can't just say that Neal's completely wrong. As El told Peter in the Pilot - wouldn't he do the same thing for her? The problem is that unlike El, Kate's not worth it.
