Somehow, in that murky way that sometimes happens in dreams, the events changed. Castiel turned to stare at a gaggle of police cars approaching the parking lot. When he turned back, the angel was gone. Dean was lying there instead, his eyes fixed on nothing, staring up at the black sky with horror in their depths.

“No,” Castiel moaned, a shudder running through his body. “No, this can’t be. This… this isn’t what happened...”

“It’s just a dream, Castiel,” Jimmy said loudly, reacting to the huge wave of grief that suddenly swept over him. “It’s not real, okay?”

“He’s dead,” said Castiel. “Dean… no, Dean!” He reached forward and pulled Dean’s body up to his lips, kissing him firmly. Jimmy wanted to look away, but he was transfixed. This wasn’t the same kind of kiss he’d seen before – he could tell that Castiel was trying to breathe life back into him, filling him up with himself, trying desperately to restore him, to bring him back from death the way he must have when he originally rescued him from Hell.

Nothing happened. Dean stayed dead.

Wow, this fic is amazing. Told from Jimmy's POV and so beautiful. I love Castiel in this one, love his all consuming, deep love for Dean, love Jimmy's thoughts, his reactions. And the ending, it was so beautiful that it actually reduced me to tears. Wow, that hasn't happened in ages. I'm stunned!

Oh, I'm definitely in the mood for some Dean/Cas fics, so before I listen to this podfic, can you tell me if the story has a happy ending? I'm not sure I can deal with ANGST!

For Castiel and Dean definitely. For Jimmy... Hm, he IS at peace when the fic ends. Though the fic itself is quite angsty.

I would do OT3 if I could, I fear I'm going to be a hypocrite if I start reading them LOL. But if I do read ANY OT3, it will be for these three. I think I'm happy with the show for now, though, and no need to read fanfics for them.

I'm the same, actually. I loved this episode and the way both Peter and Elizabeth dragged Neal into their argument. It really does feel like an OT3, doesn't it?

I think that you'll love them bonding in this ep. It felt much more like the pilot than the previous two, actually.

And I would agree with that-- this fourth episode did seem to have more of the vibe of he pilot than 1x02 and 1x03. I enjoyed how much more time Peter and Neal spent bonding/ talking about not entirely work related stuff (like women crying), etc. I am always a sucker for family/team fic where the characters obviously and consistently care for one another-- that's the one common denominator of any shows I follow, in fact.

It's actually pretty funny how fast Neal wormed his way into Peter and Elizabeth's lives. I bet that they would actually miss him if he disappeared now.
